American Star Left Behind as Julien Alfred Steals Spotlight With Major Title Win at Tom Jones Memorial

We do have one more 300 to run. But then, that’s like next week. And then we’ll be focusing on my 100 and 200.” Julien Alfred said those words on March 29 at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. She was hoping to return to the outdoor events. But little did the track and field realm know that Julien would return with a bang. The reigning Olympic champion, however, had set her bull’s-eye—the women’s 200m at the Tom Jones Memorial. Her opponents would have to be some young guns, famous for generating raw pace on the track. So, what was Julian’s reply to them?

A world lead. Yes. On April 18, Julien Alfred took 21.88 seconds (0.2) to win the women’s 200m event at the Tom Jones Memorial. Her time is now the world lead in the event. However, in setting up the time, she went past India Mayberry’s 22.30 seconds, achieved on March 15 this year at Virginia Beach Sports Center, Virginia Beach.
