There was a moment at the start of the year when a young 16-year-old gymnast received some bad news. Before even getting a chance to debut at the LA 2028 Olympics, she had to withdraw due to an injury. One of the brightest emerging stars of the American gymnastics scene has consistently faced health hurdles. From shin injuries to back fractures, she has had tribulations at every step along the way to make her country proud. However, Gabrielle Hardie is back, and she has dominated the Pan American championships, as others from her country took over the event’s prestigious positions as well.

She had missed out on the Winter Olympics due to an injury. But then, she now debuted in the Pan American Championships with a gold in her bar routine. 2025 World Cup gold medallist Jayla Hang and newcomer Gabrielle Hardie at the continental championships aced their routines.

As per the USA Gymnastics page on X today, “In her first Senior International Assignment, Gabrielle Hardie wins Bars Gold at the Pan Championships! 13.600. Jayla Hang joins her on the podium, winning Silver! 13.533.”

Teenage stars have been taking over the Pan American championships this year and clinching the top three positions. Rin Keys, 16, won all-around gold while Megan Chu, 17, and the Senior National Group each won medals on day 2 at the 2025 Senior Pan American Championships. There were more updates on USA Today’s X page where they wrote, “Jayla Hang scores a 13.233 to secure Silver on Balance Beam! Hezly Rivera wins Bronze!”

As for Hardie, while wearing a shimmering pink leotard, the 16-year-old swiftly displayed her expertise in the bar routine and made it look easy. Her double flip in the air and the subsequent smooth landing made the crowd erupt in cheers. The 4xUS  national team member faced a huge setback with injuries in the first half of this year. But her bounce back from it has been incredible.

Gabrielle Hardy had to miss the winter Olympics due to injury

Unfortunately, fans who were expecting to see some of the biggest names from the Paris 2024 Olympics in the Winter Cup, including the iconic Simone Biles, were in for an unpleasant announcement. However, in a shocking update, Gabrielle Hardie was forced to withdraw due to an injury.

This news was pretty disheartening for the fans, especially since Hardie was seen as a magnificent prospect for the gymnastics team. USA Gymnastics posted on X, revealing the news. “#WinterCup Update: Gabrielle Hardie has withdrawn due to injury.”

This wasn’t Hardie’s first rodeo of having to withdraw due to severe injuries. But none of that stopped her from swinging on the bars flamboyantly in the Pan Am Championships. And she put on a spectacular display without as much as breaking a sweat. This brings her closer to the 2025 World Championships, which will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia.
