In the world of boxing, there are only two guaranteed paths to early fame—either you’re a skilled fighter with a solid amateur prodigy, or you come from a lineage of champions. Yet, Jake Paul managed to carve out a third route. Fame? Undeniable. Respect as a boxer? That’s still debatable. It’s only been five years since he turned professional, yet he already has elite boxers talking about him. Last year, he shocked the world by defeating Mike Tyson in a highly controversial fight, and recently, he was close to securing a fight with Canelo Alvarez, too.
But one fight has been in discussion since early in his career. Back in 2021, a year after his pro debut, Jake’s older brother, Logan Paul, had an exhibition bout against Floyd Mayweather at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida. Before that fight even took place, Jake found himself face-to-face with the undefeated legend in a heated confrontation. What started as an exchange of words turned into chaos when Jake Paul stole Mayweather’s white hat, sparking an angry reaction that led to security stepping in. Since then, fans have speculated about them fighting. Now, four years later, Mayweather has finally revealed that there were talks of a fight with the younger Paul brother, too. So, what really happened?
Who’s really dodging the fight?
Yesterday, while promoting his One OF One premium natural supplements, Floyd Mayweather sat down for an exclusive interview with US Weekly. The conversation quickly shifted from business to boxing, specifically his long-rumored fight with Jake Paul. Mayweather didn’t hold back when responding to Jake Paul’s claims that he was avoiding the fight. “We offered Jake Paul the fight probably 10 or 20 times, and he turned us down. So that’s bulls—,” Mayweather said, shutting down the idea that he was the one backing out. Two weeks ago, Money Mayweather appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. When asked how a fight with Jake Paul would play out, he only needed four words: “At 48, too easy.” He made it clear—he still wants the fight, and in his eyes, Paul is the one running from it. However, Jake Paul had a different story.

Shortly after the Fallon interview aired, Logan Paul uploaded a vlog, where the Paul brothers reacted to Mayweather’s comments. When the clip of Mayweather calling the fight “too easy” played, Jake fired back: “He wouldn’t sign though.” According to the 28-year-old, the 50-0 boxer wasn’t as eager as he claimed. “He said I have to weigh 160. It’s not even physically possible,” Jake Paul stated in the vlog.
For context, Jake Paul fights as a heavyweight and weighed 227¼ lbs in his last fight against Mike Tyson. Mayweather, on the other hand, fought professionally around welterweight and super welterweight towards the end of his career, with his highest being around 150 lbs against Miguel Cotto. That’s a massive 70+ lb difference—something no athletic commission would ever sanction. But does that mean a fight is out of the question now? Definitely not. “Well… we could do an exhibition. That’s easy work, super easy,” the 48-year-old suggested in the exclusive. He even took an example of how Jake Paul chose to fight Mike Tyson instead. “Mike Tyson was a 60-year-old man. He’s an old man. Mike Tyson is enjoying his life. It is what it is,” he added in an obvious dog at the Problem Child.
But even with that option on the table, both fighters are still pointing fingers. However, one thing is certain. Paul isn’t happy with Floyd Mayweather’s current bashing of him.
Jake Paul guarantees 2-round KO against Floyd Mayweather
The rivalry between Paul and Mayweather is well-established. It recently reached a new high after Floyd Mayweather’s comments on the Jimmy Fallon show. After the show aired, Jake Paul made a bold claim. He said he would knock out the five-division world champion in just two rounds. Yes, you read that right. “You bum. Deji gave you a black eye in an event that had 4,000 people in it. Deji hahahah. I would knock you out in 2 rounds and you can’t sniff Mike Tyson’s toe,” the 11-1 boxer wrote, resharing a clip from Money Mayweather’s interview with Fallon.

Jake Paul is no stranger to trash talk, and fans love watching him back up his words—or get humbled trying. But the real question remains: How would he handle punches from elite-level fighters like Floyd Mayweather?
So, what’s the truth here? Is Jake Paul avoiding the Floyd Mayweather fight? Or is Floyd Mayweather not interested in stepping into the ring? Let’s hear your take.
