Alijah Arenas’ Update of Relief in Legalities Brings a Rather Cryptic Message About His Health

4 min read

Prayers, prayers! Beyond anything and anyone, if anyone in the basketball world needs it now more than ever is the Arenas. For the young lad. For everyone who loves the game. And if you have been keeping Alijah Arenas in your prayers, they have partly been heard, but it has to do with both the medical and legal aspects. As most NBA fans likely know by now, Alijah faced a terrifying accident when his Cybertruck slammed into a tree early Thursday morning in a suburb of Los Angeles. The crash was so intense that, even though the 18-year-old somehow avoided breaking any bones, doctors had to place him into a medically induced coma. And just to serve as a reminder, a medically induced coma is no minor step.

It’s a carefully controlled, temporary state of deep unconsciousness that doctors use in extreme cases to protect the brain. In Alijah’s situation, they made that call not because of a head injury (thankfully!), but due to smoke inhalation from the car fire. And the better news? He’s now out of the coma. Still, the question lingers — is he completely out of danger yet?

Well, heading towards the good news for the Arenas family first… According to TMZ Sports’ law enforcement sources, LAPD found no evidence of intoxication at the scene. That’s a huge weight off. As for how Alijah Arenas’ body is holding up, a rep for the family shared with TMZ Sports on Friday that the 18-year-old is showing solid progress. Still, the media outlet noted, “But [Alijah] was not yet out of the woods.”

So what exactly made the crash so disastrous? TMZ Sports reports that law enforcement believes speed played the biggest role — understandable, given the mix of a young driver and an insanely fast vehicle. To put it into perspective, depending on the model, Elon Musk’s Cybertruck can blast from 0 to 60 MPH in just 2.6 seconds. As it stands, it looks like Alijah Arenas will need some time to fully heal. Thankfully, no criminal investigation is underway at the moment, although the authorities have not yet disclosed any more details about the incident.

How did the whole thing go down?

In a truly heartbreaking update, high school hoops insider Tarek Fattal shared that young basketball standout Alijah had to be placed into an induced coma after suffering from smoke inhalation. Shortly after the story made its way online, Alijah’s mother, Laura Govan, confirmed what many had feared through her Instagram. She asked for “prayers and good energy” for her son.

Naturally, many have been asking — how did this all happen? As previously mentioned, the Arenas family’s nightmare began when he was rushed to the hospital after a terrible crash involving his Tesla Cybertruck. The sight was beyond devastating; the vehicle was found mangled and barely recognizable, lying off the side of a road in an LA neighborhood.

According to TMZ Sports, emergency crews were called to the scene at 4:55 AM following a report of a “trapped patient.” By the time responders arrived, thankfully, everyone had already gotten out of the car. However, the front end of the Cybertruck was reportedly in flames. Exactly what made concerns surrounding Alijah Arenas’ smoke inhalation serious?

Now, let’s not forget, the 18-year-old is not just another player. A five-star recruit who had already committed to USC earlier this year. His stat line through his high school career? Nearly 31 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. Players like that are rare. Now, more than ever, people are pulling for him, hoping the next update brings news of strength, healing, and brighter days ahead.
