After Stephen A. Smith’s Support, Dwight Howard Fires “Burger” Attack at ESPN Reporter for Return Criticism

3 min read

Dwight Howard’s feeling about the analyst or reporters is nothing new. Ever since he was snubbed from the NBA 75 team, the media miffed the former champion. Because the players came in support of him and were surprised by his exclusion. In 2025, once again a senior reporter of ESPN questioned the 3x DPOY’s current ability and if he would help the Lakers this season. Let’s remember the team needs a Center after the Mark Williams trade failed.

So, on First Take, Stephen A. Smith first suggested that Dwight Howard could be a handy addition to the team. But Brian Windhorst seems annoyed by that statement. “Dwight Howard’s going into the Hall of Fame because he’s [been] retired for so long. His last time he played, he was in Taiwan. Are you being serious right now?” After a scathing statement, even the former Lakers star replied on two different social media platforms.

On X, he simply stated: “Layoff the burgers windy.” Which he later edited and replaced it with the caption, “Boogie said it best .” It was a clip from last year, where DeMarcus Cousins was on Above the Rim podcast and criticized media personality and name-dropped Windy. “If I walk into a room and LeBron James is in there – like we can arguably say one of the greatest to ever touch a basketball – and he acknowledges me, that mean way more than motherf—ing Brian Windhorst… telling me I’m great.”

On Instagram, Dwight Howard added a post and in the comment section outright denied the retirement claims “I never said I retired lol.” In fact, he used a similar sentiment when there was news about his HOF nomination. “I’m not retired yet, but I’ll take it. I’m extremely grateful; I just pray they don’t do me like they did the last list.” Last time meaning the NBA 75 snub.

Dwight Howard shows no love for Windhorst despite his comparison with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Stephen A. Smith suggested the 3x DPOY’s name in the first place, because of the following qualities. “A big body who can rebound and kind of do something to play defense.” Even Smith knew the current Howard won’t be the peak player we once knew. But according to him, there are no other options available for the Lakers. Brian Windhorst disagreed and suggested another former Lakers champion as a good fit as a free agent.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s a free agent.” This answer even annoyed the host Smith. “Really? That’s what we’re doing?” Even Dwight Howard added another post after his post on X and Instagram. “This why I’m a podcaster now some people get a voice and just say things lol I never said I retired but thanks Stephen A & Shannon .

Maybe Windhorst is right in suggesting the Lakers can find a more athletic and younger player than Dwight Howard. He suggested this back in 2019 as well, but the Purple and Gold signed him, which led to the Bubble championship. So will it be the same result once again?
