After Sam Woods & Charlie Woods, Amateur Star’s Augusta National Actions Make Elite Palm Beach School Proud: ‘Killing It’

The Benjamin School girls are ‘killing it’ in sports! Around a month ago, Tiger Woods was in the stands for a soccer game. He was there watching his daughter, Sam Woods, play in the Florida 2A FHSAA State Championship finals. They were up against a formidable Episcopal School of Jacksonville side who had been on a prolific run so far. A senior defender in her team, the 17-year-old helped her varsity girls’ soccer team beat their opponents in the finals.

The crowd, including the GOAT, erupted as the Benjamin School won the match 1-0. Sam Woods and her team also celebrate their teammate, Emma Bartoli’s goal that helped them triumph. With the win, the school captured the first-ever girls soccer state championship in their history. After playing just four games in the regular season, the team won 7 matches in a row to grab the title. The championship win also saw them complete their season at the Spec Martin Stadium on the Stetson University campus in DeLand, Florida. A month later, the Benjamin School and Sam Woods are celebrating the performance of another one of their peers. This time, it’s in the sport her father is much more familiar with, golf.

The young amateur golfers are battling it out at Augusta National for a prestigious event. The 2025 Augusta National Women’s Amateur is one of the most anticipated tournaments in the women’s amateur calendar. After the first round of the tournament, the leaderboard is topped by Megha Ganne from the USA. But there is one other name that Benjamin School would have a close eye on and that’s Andie Smith.

The 22-year-old also had an incredible start to the tournament. Sitting at T11, Smith finished with a 3-under par 69 after the first 18 holes. The Benjamin School Athletics’s X account celebrated her great performance with a post. They tweeted “Alum, Andie Smith, killing it in Augusta!”, showing their support for their former student.

Interestingly, Charlie Woods had also given Benjamin School something to celebrate back in November 2024. He was a part of the school team that finished runner-ups at the State Championship. The young golf

Coming back to Augusta National, Smith is a bit far away from the top of the leaderboard. Let’s see how she is playing as compared to her peers in the tournament.

Sam Wood’s former schoolmate’s amateur performance

Representing Duke University as a senior, Sam Woods’s former schoolmate bagged three birdies in a flawless round to tie at eleventh. However, she is a few strokes away from the first-placed Megha Ganne. Ganne managed a faultless 7 birdies and 1 eagle to score 9-under par 63 on the first day of the tournament. She sits safely at the top of the leaderboard with a 2 stroke lead against the entire field.

Interestingly, it’s the defending champion, Lottie Woad who is placed second on the leaderboard. Woad ended round one with a -7 as she too had a 2-stroke lead against everyone else except Ganne. The two women might battle it out until the last few holes of the event. But will Andie Smith also join the party and compete for the title? Only time will tell. You can watch all the action live on the Golf Channel and the NBC Sports app.
