Bronny James, the son of arguably the greatest of this generation, LeBron James, had a tough start to the season. He faced criticism from fans and analysts alike following his debut. As a result, Bronny was moved to the G-League, to join the Lakers’ affiliated South Bay Lakers. While many saw the move as a backwards step in Bronny’s journey in the basketball world, it is proving to be just what he needed with every point he scores.
Going up against the Santa Cruz Warriors, Bronny James put in his best performance for the South Bay Lakers. He scored a career high of 39 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Helping his side achieve a close 122-118 victory. This comes straight after Bronny scored his career-best in the NBA in the Lakers’ defeat to the Milwaukee Bucks last week. Things sure are looking up for Bronny right? Sure, and there’s no one prouder than the older LeBron and the man who he, in 2004, claimed was the best player in the NBA.
His father, LeBron James took to X and posted, “SMILE THROUGH IT ALL YOUNG,” “KEEP GOING!!” cheering on his young starlet. Following suit, another NBA champion, Kevin Garnett, who is known for his unabashed support, shared a clip of Bronny on his Instagram story, showcasing his highlight. He captioned the story, “ awww shhh Keep going Bronny [salute emoji] ,” hyping up the young prospect and to keep going amid his ongoing mental struggles.

By now, Bronny James is earning how to handle criticism at the highest extent. Being a son of a bona fide legend in the same sport is no small hill to climb; proving everybody wrong every step of the way has been the journey of Bronny James. But the question is— Is Bronny James made for the big leagues, or is he just a product of nepotism?
Is Bronny James cut out for the NBA?
Bronny James still faces significant questions about his readiness for the NBA. His lone college season at USC was underwhelming, averaging just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game; while shooting 36.6% from the field and 26.7% from the three-point range. These stats are far below typical NBA guard standards, raising concerns about his offensive efficiency and scoring ability.
This season, however, the 20-year-old Bronny James has managed to average 20.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. The limited minutes with the Los Angeles Lakers have led to criticism from fans and national talking heads, as he has shown quite the improvement in the G-League. Bronny James’ stance on the question of whether he is cut out for the big leagues is simple. He said, “I belong out here. It’s all I’m trying to prove.” And he has shown that as of late, scoring his career best in the G-League as well as in the NBA.
It is only time that will tell if Bronny is indeed cut out for the big leagues. But if these recent performances are any indication, we might just have a star in our hands. With the constant support of his father, Bronny is sure to excel. And we are hopeful he does!
