The 2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open was not devoid of drama. Min Woo Lee registered his first-ever PGA Tour victory, overcoming Gary Woodland and Scottie Scheffler by the margin of a stroke. However, the way he played his last shot was surprising. For his winning putt for par, Min Woo Lee’s action caused quite a stir. The ball was barely eight inches from the hole, an easy shot for any professional. However, he walked to the ball, and it looked like he was measuring the slope, exactly how AimPoint users do it.
The scene was very similar to A Lim Kim’s highly criticized use of AimPoint at the Honda LPGA Thailand event earlier this year. Even Scottie Scheffler, who was watching the whole scene unfold from inside, couldn’t control his laugh. However, the mystery as to why Min Woo Lee performed AimPoint was solved when he appeared on Dan Rapaport‘s podcast.
Min Woo Lee sets the record straight
When Dan Rapaport on his podcast Dan on Golf, asked Lee his reasoning behind the use of such a controversial method, Min Woo Lee laughed. And he candidly made everyone aware that it was just a gag. He explained, “Doing it for the people. Just for a laugh. I thought of it and I said, ‘Hey, should I do this?’ And they were like, ‘Yeah, it is pretty funny. You should do it.’ ”
The AimPoint method has been in the middle of several controversial takes. Jim Nantz, who is a vocal advocate against its use, has time and again criticized the method for reducing the pace of play. “It really drives me crazy when you see their backs to the hole, and they’re trying to feel the break, and they walk another five feet and they do it again. “They go through this process [but] where’s the feel in it?” Nantz had stated previously about the time-consuming method.
Min Woo Lee using AimPoint on the winning tap-in is hands down the funniest ending to a golf tournament ever

Min Woo Lee does not normally use AimPoint which made it even more incredulous. The Australian golfer decided to go ahead with the gag mainly because the putt was in a very safe place, just 8 inches from the hole. So, there was very little pressure on his shoulders, in his mind at least. And registering his first-ever win on the PGA Tour was a huge moment for the Australian. “It was a cool moment. It is nice to have a little tap-in to win a tournament.” Lee stated.
Min Woo Lee will not be playing at the Valero Texas Open. Instead, he will be getting ready for his fourth Masters Tournament in Augusta.
Min Woo Lee confident about Masters
When asked about the upcoming major, Min Woo Lee did not miss a beat. He was very confident in his ability and his form at the Augusta National Golf Course. “My confidence is high. I love Augusta. I played well there,” the one-time PGA Tour winner stated. In his three outings so far, Lee has finished in the top 25 two times, an impressive record.
He did not make the cut in 2023. However, his form right now is trending upward and he will be looking to use that two weeks later. His confidence is paramount as evidenced by his words to Dan Rapaport. “I have a week-off, which I am very looking forward to. I will see you guys at the big dance,” stated Min Woo Lee confidently.
