Last year, Shareef O’Neal was close to fulfilling his dream to play in the NBA. He signed with the Sacramento Kings, but the next day was waived to their G-league affiliate team. Even with the Stockton Kings, he did not make the final roster list. Although his hooping dream has yet to materialize, he has made the most of his time. After Shaquille O’Neal’s request to get involved with Reebok, his 25-year-old was part of the process of the latest launched ‘Engine A’.
On his social media, Shareef added a post after his previous post was five weeks ago. He informed his 2.6 million followers with an update, “I beeen missin but im just gettin back.” The post was a carousel post with 9 photos. With a few photos of his fit check, one was where he added the picture of the latest Reebok ‘Engine A’. The same one that Angel Reese wore during the ‘Barbie Night’ in the game against the Indiana Fever.
It was a special night since it was the final matchup of the regular season between Caitlin Clark and Reese back in August. But the shoes have been released now, and are available on Reebok’s website at $120. When the Chicago Sky forward wore those, they instantly became the talk of the town. Shaquille O’Neal’s son updated the followers about his role in the creation process.
“Glad to have been apart of this [sic].” There is an interesting story on why Shareef joined his father to Reebok. In fact, he had other basketball plans, which got vetoed by his parents.
How Shaquille O’Neal convinced his son to join a $2.5 billion venture
In 2023, Reebok appointed the Lakers legend as their president of basketball and Allen Iverson as vice president. To revive the company to its past glory, apart from AI, Shaq also asked his son to join him. “I know I always make fun of what you wear, but I really want you to help, like, you know, rebrand.” Shareef once shared the conversation he had with his father.
This conversation came after he told Shaquille O’Neal about his plans to play in Australia. In order to focus on his basketball career and stay away from the limelight, he chose that destination. Let’s not forget, that Shareef suffered from an anomalous coronary artery and came back after open-heart surgery when he was 18 years old. The Big Aristotle and his ex-wife Shaunie Henderson were worried about their son’s health and wanted him closer to the family.
That is why he opted to stay close to them and became a part of Reebok. He even made a bold prediction about the company. “We’re doing a really good job. I’d say that by the time 2025 starts, Reebok will be up there with the rest of these brands.” With a few of the sizes already sold out of ‘Engine A’, Shaquille O’Neal’s plan to involve his son could turn into a master stroke.
