Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, the #7-ranked lightweight did not mince words. “I don’t like [Paddy Pimblett],” he said. “He’s talked too much. He’s arrogant from England. He [said] things about me many times.” There’s real tension here, and it’s been quietly building behind the scenes. According to Gamrot, the English star’s rise has been almost too smooth and comfortable. “His way to this position he has right now was so easy,” he said.
The 34-year-old further added, “If he got a good opponent against him, I don’t think that he would win this fight.” The bitterness is not one-sided. It is based on Gamrot’s perception of “The Baddy’s” disrespectful behavior. While Pimblett has been on a roll with a phenomenal TKO win over Michael Chandler and has even boldly called out top names like Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje, Gamrot’s name has been regularly brought up.
And now, ‘Games’ wants to silence the critics with a bout that will electrify European MMA. “He’s from Europe, I am from Europe. I think if UFC make this fight, it’s gonna be the biggest fight in the lightweight division in Europe.” Mateusz Gamrot, however, is more than just emotional; he is also calculated. He believes Pimblett’s flashy style and outspoken nature would be ineffective against someone with his skill level.
“He’s a great stylistic matchup for me, and I’ll beat him for sure,” Gamrot said. “I love scrambling with somebody on the ground… Every time when I have opportunity, I submit the guy.” He’s coming off fights where striking was the dominant tactic, but now, he’s itching to test himself against another grappler, especially one he doesn’t respect.

Now that the lightweight championship is up for grabs, the Spanish-Georgian is one win away from becoming king of this new division—and Pimblett is keeping a careful eye on things from the shadows.
“It’d be far better for my career if Ilia wins, because I’d, more than likely, be his first title defense,” Paddy told TNT Sports. This isn’t only about belts. It is about legacy and long-awaited retribution. Ilia Topuria isn’t ignoring Paddy’s remarks either. His press conference jibe about Pimblett’s need for “money for the parties” was loaded with contempt, as he said, “He knows where the money is now. He’s gotta pay for the parties he throws for himself.”
