“Absolute Disgrace” – Yankees’ Torpedo Bat Strategy Under Fire as Fans Rip Into Franchise After Humiliating Defeat vs Tigers

4 min read

If you are a baseball fan, it’s a guarantee you haven’t missed the torpedo bats. They’ve spread like a virus and are now everywhere. Starting off in the New York Yankees players’ hands, they’ve now induced chatter all over social media, even forums, and more. Everyone bought into the narrative that the Yankees had just found a loophole to hit insistently and reach the postseason seamlessly with the magic bat that unlocked the full power of a hitter’s biomechanics.

And well, at first, it did look like it. 15 home runs in three games! Quite a record, right? But it turns out this viral magic bat had an expiration date. As the Detroit Tigers delivered a loud reality check to the Yankees, they didn’t have a return policy. And Tarik Skubal, the reigning AL Cy Young winner, was the man of the hour and a man with a mission.

Skubal allowed four hits across six innings. He didn’t walk anyone and sent sixteen straight batters after giving up back-to-back singles to start the game. And the torpedo bat? Well, no power of it at all. But Skubal wasn’t the only Detroit Tiger just roaring at the Yankees.

FINAL: Tigers 5, Yankees 0.

Spencer Torkelson lit the fuse in the fourth inning, launching the first of three homers off Carlos Carrasco. And Zach McKinstry and Dillon Dingler. Then Kerry Carpenter added another in the fifth—and the game at this point was unreachable. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees bats, which were hot just days ago, fell completely silent.

Aaron Judge was struck out in a key spot, and the rest of the lineup was outmatched. The torpedo power that fans were hyping up was missing. And guess what? The same fans are the ones calling them out now.

New York Yankee fans rage after tragic loss

New York Yankee fans are mad, and one comment succinctly summed up the sentiment: “You are an absolute disgrace”. And can you blame them? Ever since the season started, they have been doing great. Sure, there have been hiccups, but they managed 15 home runs in three games. Then it was blanked by a 5-0 team that started with a losing record. Well, this is not the picture the Yankees would want to paint.

One fan had a serious question: “Did yall forget how to play?” And for a while it did look like they did. Their lineup was completely frozen. However, frustration among fans is understandable. Cody Bellinger was, after all, missing from the game, and the reason is absolutely wild. He got food poisoning from eating chicken wings. He threw up all night, apparently. Bet—the Yankees can’t put the blame on that.

But then came the jab at the new bats: “HAAAAHAAAA SO MUCH FOR THEM TORPEDO BATS“. Now this was to be expected. When anything becomes famous, it gets good press, which it already did. And now, it has been gaining quite a bad reputation. Because it never was about the bat but the player. Why else do you think Aaron Judge, Mookie Betts, and such top players would refuse to give it a go? Even Ohtani was not interested in it. Sure, it might not be a total gimmick, but it’s also not not a lottery to countless hits.

One fan’s stock market analogy was the cherry atop the cake: “Torpedo bat shares just nosedived”. But then, you can’t give the credit completely to the New York Yankees and their game against Detroit Tigers here. Sure, they lost even with the bat, but there was one player who already gave the bat a bad reputation before. Max Muncy famously said he would give it a go next game. He did try the next game, but then the result was so bad, he ditched the bat midway. And what do you know—he was back!

Another fan simply commented on the size of the bats, saying: “”Can we increase the size of the bats again, please ?” It’s funny because it was a huge topic of discussion initially. Everyone wanted to know if the bats were according to the rulebook. However, no discrepancies were found in the bat and in fact, even Japan’s NPB is thinking of adopting it. Time for a rethink, perhaps?

What’s your take on the torpedo bats? Was it beginner’s luck shining when the Yankees used it? And now it’s done and dusted? Or is there some secret sauce in them? Let us know in the comments.
