It’s the dawn of a new week of the new month, and here we are—still no word on Aaron Rodgers donning the black and gold. Despite the buzz from his visit to Pittsburgh and workouts with DK Metcalf, Rodgers remains a free agent, leaving Steelers Nation in suspense.
Even Art Rooney II’s optimism hasn’t translated into action. So, as we flip the calendar, the question lingers: When will this saga reach its finale? For the time being, there is no credible source that can confirm when this saga will end, but there are certainly some jaw-dropping and internet-breaking fan theories. We’re talking about Rodgers signing with the Steelers’ announcement theories, folks.
And the latest one suggests that he might announce his decision on Pat McAfee’s show. Yeah, you read that right. On Sunday, Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan took to his official ‘X’ handle and stated, “Buzz: Pat McAfee’s sold out Big Night Aht is Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. It’s a fan theory that Aaron Rodgers will announce he’s signing with the Steelers at that event. Do you believe it?”

Go on, have your guesses. Considering Rodgers has been a regular guest on “The Pat McAfee Show” in the past, this theory doesn’t sound outlandish at all. Unfortunately, this is merely a theory. No facts. No truth. Just a theory. Because Mark Kaboly, the Steelers Correspondent for The Pat McAfee Show, declined any such speculations with just one word. “No,” he commented on Fillipponi’s post.
To make it more interesting and obvious, even the show’s host, Pat McAfee, shot down that theory. “That’s crazy. It’s hilarious to think about,” McAfee said about the theory on his show last month. “I do appreciate that people think that is possible.” Guess we’re back to square one. Once Again.
With no confirmation of Rodgers signing a deal with the Steelers in sight, the frustration is growing in the Steel City. And why not? Just when you think Aaron Rodgers or the Steelers might finally give us some closure, boom—another plot twist. One minute he’s teasing retirement, the next he’s maybe eyeing Minnesota like it’s part of some secret plan. But one thing’s common: it’s the growing frustration.
Aaron Rodgers and a never-ending Steelers’ saga
At this point, the Steelers Nation is frustrated with Rodgers. If we believe the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero’s reports, Rodgers himself arranged a meeting with the Steelers’ owners and the coaches alike. But still, here we are. With no contract talks in sight.
Some say that the 41-year-old QB is considering calling it a career, while others believe that he’s still waiting for a call from Minnesota. And tis came from the Steelers’ legend, Ben Roethlisberger, folks. “I think Aaron secretly is still holding out for Minnesota, which is why he hasn’t signed with the Steelers. Why else would you go throw with DK and be working out and put it out, blast it to everybody that I’m throwing to these guys, but you won’t sign?” Big Ben said on his podcast the other day. And he definitely has a point.
To top that off, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini believes that the reasons behind Rodgers not signing a deal comes down to money. “Usually, it’s money,” Russini said. “Financials are always part of it. He does not need to sign and take some cheap deal…There’s gonna be a number here that’s gonna make Aaron happy. And I just don’t know if Pittsburgh is there yet.” The reason?
Well, at the beginning of the free agency, Pittsburgh made an offer to Rodgers. And if the reports are true, they haven’t changed their offer a bit. And Rodgers’ probably not satisfied with Pittsburgh’s offer. All in all, the clock is ticking. The waiting game continues. With each day, there’s a certain rumor or a fan theory that’s making this Rodgers-Steelers saga spicier.
Whether the stoppage between this signing is Minnesota, or money concerns—we’ve no clue. But one thing’s for sure: almost a month after free agency kicked off, Aaron Rodgers is still a free agent—voluntarily.
