Let’s brace ourselves for what we have been waiting for quite some time. The much-anticipated game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees. The faceoff, as many predicted, is going to be a massive one. Maybe a replay of the World Series in 2024 or a preview of what’s going to happen in this season. And why not? Both teams have some of the best players and thus, the comparison is evident.
Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone thought it would be a fantastic matchup, even though it felt like a rematch of the World Series championship. He further pointed out how he’s going to consider the faceoff, “Now, we won’t go in treating it any differently, but we played the Subway Series against the New York Mets last week, and there was a lot of hype for that. I think these are good things for our guys to play in and experience.”
Now, in an interview, when asked about comparing Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani, Boone was all praise of Ohtani for his powerful hitting ability, pitching, and effective base-stealing skills. However, he considered Judge to be the best hitter overall. Now, get ready to be shocked a bit after what Aaron Judge said….
Judge, when asked about how he looks at the best player on the opponent team and whether he could match him, the response was shocking, yet hilarious. “I felt like he was copying me. You know I started, uh, no, it’s just he’s impressive, you know; he’s one of the best players in the game for a reason. You know what he can do in the box; you know, on the base path, once he gets back on the mound, it’s special.” And we know it’s true, right? Shohei Ohtani is not currently pitching, but he has already posted 22 home runs, 37 RBIs, and a batting average of .294 with a .394 OBP and a 1.064 OPS.
Judge expressed his admiration for Ohtani’s in-the-box strategies and revealed that he will improve even more after he returns to the mound. With all the excitement among the fans anticipating the highly anticipated game between an MVP and another MVP, Judge remained hopeful that he would be ready before the game. Probably, that’s what we all were waiting to see, right?
Not to mention that Aaron Judge has been equally good this season. He has been off to a much better start at the plate when compared to Shohei Ohtani. The Yankees’ outfielder has posted 19 home runs and batted at an average of .392, a .486 OBP and a 1.236 OPS.
While we all expected to see who could be the best player in Los Angeles, it seems like Shohei Ohtani won the battle after the Dodgers won the first game of the World Series rematch against the Yankees by 8-5.
Shohei Ohtani proved Aaron Judge wrong after hilarious quip
What we witnessed on Friday was something that we were dying to see for a long time. Two superstars, two best teams and a galore of runs—what more can one expect? While debates were ongoing regarding who is going to be the best, both Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge played their part. It happened for the first time in the history of MLB that two MVPs managed to hit a home run in the first inning. Quite a record to witness, isn’t it?
In the electric atmosphere at the Dodgers stadium, Aaron Judge started with a bang as he hit his 19th home run against the Dodgers pitcher, Tony Gonsolin. It was a massive hit that travelled at a speed of 113 mph, further increasing his number of home runs to five at the stadium. However, the smiles of the Yankees’ fans soon faded as Shohei Ohtani responded to it quite effectively.
The Dodgers superstar managed to blast off a home run against Max Fried’s first pitch, pushing the ball over the center-field wall. It was his 21st homer, but not the last. Adding to his tally was another homer that came off Ohtani’s bat in the sixth inning at 112.5 mph.
Excited with such an impressive display of power hitting by both the superstars, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, “We love superstars and to start the game off with Judge hitting a homer and Shohei answering in the bottom half was pretty exciting for everyone.” Well, it definitely was. This time, the Dodgers defeated the Yankees, and Shohei Ohtani emerged victorious. Nonetheless, Judge has plenty of time to bounce back stronger in the upcoming games, which should make for an exciting weekend.
