Claressa Shields doubled down on her disdain for Ryan Garcia, this time putting her hopes on Rolando Romero. Last year, Garcia and Shields started a rivalry when GWOAT favored Devin Haney as the two childhood rivals tussled over the ostarine saga. The two-time Olympic champ didn’t hold back, slamming Garcia for cheating and sparking a heated war of words between them.
Now, as KingRy is gearing up for a comeback after a year-long ban, Shields isn’t budging. While many in the boxing world are ready to give “KingRy” a fresh start, the undisputed heavyweight queen refuses to let it slide. She once again called out Garcia, insisting that he should face consequences for his past actions.
Ryan Garcia needs to be held accountable
In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Shields shared her insight on the upcoming Garcia-Romero fight. While she acknowledges that KingRy has a strong chance of winning, she hopes Rolly knocks him out. “I’m hoping that Rolly catches Ryan and puts his damn lights out,” she stated, showing her disdain over the Victorville native.
Shields recalled the Haney-Garcia bout last year, claiming, “Ryan is a drug cheat and he knows he cheated.” She added, “And the world keep saying, ‘Oh, Devin didn’t get way out of a hook.’ He got hit with a steroid hook. I don’t know why you guys keep putting that word off like it wasn’t just the hook, STEROID HOOK.”
Last year, the ostraine scandal outright divided the boxing world in half. Shields gets the fans who say Haney should’ve slipped those hooks to survive. However, the GWOAT is convinced the extra zip from ostraine made those shots harder to shake off. “The hook and the right hands and stuff had a little bit more stuff on him because he was positive for Ostraine,” she declared.
Her issue with Garcia isn’t just about that, though. The Flint native demanded an apology from the 26-year-old, taking a swipe at his whole fanbase in the process.
Claressa Shields wants an apology
Shields contempt for Garcia extends beyond boxing. She is fed up with how he dodges accountability for his nasty comments. “I want Rolly to win because Ryan (is a) disrespectful man. He’s a disrespectful kid you know and I think everybody is giving him a pass. ‘Oh he’s doing better and he went to rehab or whatever the case may be that stuff.’ He doesn’t get a pass from me,” she declared.
Last year, the Victorville native went on a tirade against Shields online, hurling a bunch of vile insults toward her, labeling her as “anti-humans.” She fired back, pointing to his true colors, dismissing the idea of forgiving him, that too without an apology. “That stuff is in him. He was saying the N-word, he said things to me about my family. You know all types of stuff so I don’t respect that and it still hasn’t been an apology from him,” she stated.
Despite the WBC kicking Garcia out for his racist outbursts, much of the boxing world has embraced his return. That rubs Shields the wrong way—she won’t budge until he owns up with an apology. Given Garcia’s track record, that apology seems unlikely.
