The All-Star Game marked the end of a nearly four-decade partnership between TNT and the NBA. ESPN/ABC alongside NBC and Amazon will be the next destination for the fans starting this fall. The media rights package was worth $76 billion for 11 years, and the analyst desk was taking shape. Amazon has already roped in former players Dirk Nowitzki and Blake Griffin for their NBA coverage. Meanwhile, NBC reportedly signed Carmelo Anthony to their network, but they are not done yet.
“Actually, I’m going just be honest with you; I’m saying that because I had a meeting with NBC. You know they’re doing their show for next season.” Gilbert Arenas, in his livestream, confirmed that he interviewed for the job. Plus, he gave flowers to Melo. “Congratulations big dog, he’s going to be one of the guys and they’re still you know audition and interviewing you know other guests that can be a part of the show. So I had my meeting um and the perspective that they’re coming from is crazy.”
Andrew Marchand, senior writer with The Athletic, broke the news of the Knicks legend’s new role. “NBC has hired Carmelo Anthony to serve as one of the network’s top studio analysts when it begins broadcasting NBA games next season, sources briefed on the network’s plans said Thursday.”
It was back in December when Carmelo Anthony confirmed “active discussion” was happening in terms of his analyst role. Within a few months, NBC seemingly added the scoring champion to their network. The Syracuse champion is yet to officially comment on the news, but Arenas’ updates confirm the reports. So, what can we expect from the 10x All-Star in his new role? Don’t worry, Melo already had the wheels in motion.
How Carmelo Anthony wants to stand out
During the 2024 Paris Olympics, the former Lakers star became an unofficial coach and helped the team win 95-91 against Serbia. Naturally, the fans are overjoyed that Melo is coming back to the game. Let’s also remind you that he is one of the 17 finalists for the Hall of Fame induction this year. So, the year 2025 could be the year of Carmelo Anthony.

During his interview with Mark Elibert, in December, the 2013 NBA Scoring champion opened up about the opportunity to be an analyst. “You know, my door is open. I would probably have a different approach to it in terms of how I would like to speak the game and talk about the game creatively, what that looks like, and how that comes across.”
A Hall of Fame induction is in sight, several businesses already working well, and now another feather. The Knicks icon is known for scoring from any position and is also not missing post-retirement.
