‘Nick Screams at Me’ – Costeen Hatzi Hilariously Reveals Her Tennis Dynamic With Kyrgios

5 min read

Always present in Nick Kyrgios’ player box cheering him on, girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi recently revealed something hilarious about the duo’s intense dynamic after nearly three years of dating. The Sydney-based influencer once admitted that she had “never really watched a tennis game” before meeting Kyrgios. But now that she is often seen on tour with Kyrgios’ and has embraced the sport, have her views developed?

Nick Kyrgios returned to competitive tennis this Australian Open after a slew of injury-related setbacks. The unranked Krygios faced Britain’s Jacob Fearnley at the John Cain Arena raring to go after his hiatus. Before the tournament, the Australian has appeared in only two singles matches since October 2022. The former Wimbledon finalist has struggled with form and fitness due to career-threatening injuries and lost in straight sets, 7-6 (3), 6-3, 7-6 (1) in his homeland. Despite the loss, he generated buzz at the Australian Open, where cheering him on in the stands, was his girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi.

Costeen Hatzi, a 24-year-old Sydney-based social media influencer, has been dating the tennis star since December 2021. She remains a constant presence in Kyrgios’s life and has been with him through thick and thin. The pair have had quite the meet-cute, Kyrgios came across Costeen’s Instagram post, in which she was selling a mirror. He messaged her for the same, and the rest is history. They soon made their relationship official and moved in together in 2022. Hatzi remarked, ‘I fell in love at first sight,’ as she remembered their meeting.

The influencer has fully immersed herself in the sport as she is now a full-time traveler tagging along with Kyrgios, attending tournaments across the globe. Speaking to 9Honey, she described what they do on a typical tour day, “I wake up in the morning, we go get breakfast, then we go into the courts. Nick trains for about an hour and a half, we go back to the player’s lounge, eat some food, then come back home and Nick gets physio.”  She is often reminded of how famous her boyfriend is, “In my day-to-day life, Nick’s just my boyfriend… And then I go to his practice and there are so many cameras, and people have been waiting for five hours, and I’m like, ‘Oh, you’re actually a really good tennis player too.”

But while she has fully grown into her role of a tennis WAG, doesn’t mean she has picked up the racket herself. In an Instagram interview with Broken Rackets, she was asked if she plays the sport now. “No, I don’t play tennis. I’ve tried to. Nick screams at me, he nearly breaks the rackets as well (jokingly). Um, ah, no. I don’t break rackets,” she said playfully.

Through her lighthearted confession, it’s clear that Kyrgios’ fiery on-court energy doesn’t allow him to be a patient coach to his girlfriend. Even though Costeen is not from the same tennis world that Kyrgios belongs to, her presence in his life has only made it better, according to his manager, Daniel Horsfall.I’ve seen him in previous relationships, and they perhaps were taking him in the other direction. [Costeen] lifts him up and gives him motivation and inspiration, and she’s just a great partner to him,” Horsfall remarked.

Kyrgios has also admitted that Hatzi has had an impact on his career decisions. In 2023, he told reporters that she was the reason he decided to return to the French Open after a six-year absence. “My girlfriend wants to know Paris,” Kyrgios said at the time. “I would have preferred to stay at home, but my girl wants to get to know the city, so I will have to go this year.” And as a constant face in the tennis circuit, she’s made her presence well-known.

Costeen Hatzi: Making Her Mark in Tennis

Beyond the game, Costeen Hatzi has made waves with her tournament outfits as a tennis WAG. Her Australian open outfits have cemented her status as a courtside style icon. When asked about her fashion inspiration she told BROKEN RACKETS, “When Kendall Jenner goes to the tennis. I love what she wears. Other than her, I’d say all my tennis girlfriends that I’m friends with.” The 24-year-old has not hired a stylist for her Australian Open appearances. She revealed that she plans her tournament outfits, even keeping a folder on her phone labeled “AO fits.

Hatzi is part of a stylish set of “tennis girlfriends” that includes Paige Lorenze, Hannah Dal Sasso, and Morgan Riddle. These icons have millions of followers together, making them a significant part of the sport’s culture, as they merge influencer culture in tennis with high fashion.

However, at this year’s Australian Open, Hatzi did more than just show us stylish outfits. She landed a reporting role this year, covering exclusive content for Stan Sport. While Hatzi is not a tennis player, she is certainly finding her feet in the tennis world, whether it’s cheering Kyrgios on, setting fashion trends or being an anchor for the sport.
