JJ Redick’s Trusted Star’s Future in Jeopardy After Shake Milton Becomes Victim of Marcus Smart Signing

2 min read

The Los Angeles Lakers are not messing around this summer. Just weeks after landing DeAndre Ayton and making trades to move up in the second round of the draft, the Purple & Gold are set to make another move. LA is set to acquire the former Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Smart, following his buyout from the Washington Wizards. The veteran guard is set to sign a two-year- $11 million deal with the Lakers once he officially clears waivers. However, before that, LA has to make some space on its roster.

In fact, they’ve already started by waving off Shake Milton to make some cap space. Right now, the Lakers don’t have enough space under the second apron to sign Smart. However, ESPN reporter Boby Marks has pointed out that this isn’t going to cut it for LA. “Step 1 of 2 for the Lakers Lakers now $3.9M below the 1st apron Smart starting salary is $5.1M,” He wrote on X. This indicates that there is one more player whom the team must sacrifice to land Smart.

So, who could be getting axed next? Many people think that it could be JJ Redick’s trusted soldier, Jordan Goodwin. With LA still needing to clear about $1.2 million to sign Marcus Smart, waiving Goodwin could be the best way possible for them.

This is a developing story…
