As the reigning rebounding queen, Angel Reese isn’t just grabbing rebounds. Instead, she’s seizing the moment. Her 12.8 average has proved her relentlessness despite the noise, but her recent move? It’s screaming ‘you can’t faze me’! After refusing to board an overcrowded train to sign with established brands, the Chi-Town Barbie is getting creative at the Reebok headquarters. And her fans are all in for it.
Now in her second WNBA season with the Chicago Sky, the two-time All-Star and offensive rebounder is carving out a name both on and off the court. Despite signing the deal back in October 2023, her partnership with Reebok recently made headlines as she became the face of the brand. That momentum surged earlier this year with the launch of her first signature shoe.
Called the “Angel Reese 1,” the Diamond Dust edition marked the athlete’s bold entry into the world of sneakers. But Reese isn’t done making moves.
Just ahead of the 2025 All-Star Game, Reebok unveiled a limited-edition colorway of the Angel Reese 1: the “Mebounds.” Drenched in bold pink and stamped with defiance, the name is a brilliant twist on a term once used to mock her. But now the athlete officially trademarked the jab and wore it like an armor.
The forward athlete and Reebok teased fans with a collaborative post by sharing the first look of the pastel pink sneakers. The sports brand also added a sneaky caption, enough to rouse fans. “Angel Reese 1 Mebounds. All mine. Not yours (yet),” Reebok wrote. And while Reese owns every step, who is ready to follow her footsteps?
The sporty sneakers featured two distinct hues of pink. While the vibrant shade dominated from the thumb to the heel, specks of dusty rose emerged from the middle of the toe to travel via laces and all the way up the tongue and the open edges of the mouth. The lighter shade also seeped through the crevices on the sides and added a much-needed depth and chic to the otherwise monotonous design.
Reese rocked the vibrant edition on Friday as a sneak peak into the collection. Even the Sky forward shared the pictures of the latest sneakers in line. She took to X to write, “Literally MINE,” in conjunction with Reebok. “Not yours (yet),” the athlete later added with a wink emoji. This was enough to send the fans into a frenzy.
Fans come in support of Angel Reese
The Bayou Barbie has often used criticism as an opportunity to market self. And this even expands to the popular on-court incident. Often being trolled online for the athlete’s knack of grabbing her own missed shots earned her the title Mebounds. But instead of taking the joke personally, the Sky player embraced the joke as an honor.
A fan commented, “MEBOUNDS!!! turnt that hate into a profit!” From starting a popular merchandise to the recent limited edition sneakers, Angel Reese flipped the narrative in her favor. Moreover, she even used the term as part of her identity to increase her market value. No wonder fans are in awe of the athlete!
Another user took to Instagram and wrote, “I love how she’s taking the hate and winning from it. y’all can’t stop this girl.” And rightly so! The criticism may have been loud, but Reese hasn’t stopped putting in the work. Over her last 8 games, she averaged 19.1 points and 14.4 rebounds a night! That refers to a 15% increased efficiency from the first 13 games. So yeah, the Chi-Town Barbie has offered more than one way to let the critics know they can’t pull her down.
Even farther away from her game, while the hate speech, involving racial comments, may have surfaced widely — including a repost from Robert Griffin III that blew up — fans are letting Reese know she still has a row of support behind her. “I’m going to buy a pair. It will be my first ever WNBA SHOE EVER CONGRATULATIONS QUEEN YOU DESERVE IT.” There were specific requests too!
“All I’m saying is they better come size 15/16 men’s or me and the fellas protesting,” another user wrote.
Other users appreciated the color, style and design that vibes with the whole Barbie theme. After all, the color pink amplifies Angel Reese. A user resonated with the latest color and echoes the words, “Do I need another pair of pink shoes? No. Am I getting these? Fashoooooo.” And why not! Slated to release the same time as the Diamond Dust edition next year, guess fans will have to wait a little longer before they can splurge on the unapologetically Reese edition, as presented by Reebok.
