Caitlin Clark is out yet again with another injury! And this time, right before the WNBA All-Star weekend, too. The fans couldn’t have been more disappointed with the Fever star’s recent heartfelt post on X clarifying she’ll miss the All-Star Match and the 3-point contest. But fear not, fans, because Lexie Hull is here to save the day! And it looks like some backroom talk might’ve made things happen for Lexie in the 3-point contest? But is that really a surprise? After all, as Clark had declared on X last year, “This is now a Lexie Hull fan account”.
Lexie Hull was named as the replacement after Caitlin Clark confirmed she would miss both the All-Star Game and the 3-point contest. Clark’s ability from beyond the arc is nearly unmatched, which makes her absence all the more disappointing, especially when you consider that she wanted her first-ever 3-point contest to be in Indianapolis. “I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can’t participate in the 3-Point Contest or the All-Star Game. I have to rest my body,” said Clark. After the season Clark has had, though, no one would blame her; it’s been a rough one.
Lexie Hull will now join a loaded 3-point contest lineup, featuring none other than the past two champions – Sabrina Ionescu, returning for the first time since 2023, and Allisha Gray, looking to reclaim the crown in 2025. But Hull’s entry might not be purely procedural, as teammate Kelsey Mitchell may have just let slip a telling detail. In an interview with Robin Lundberg, Kelsey Mitchell seemed very excited that Clark’s Fever teammate had the opportunity to replace her in the contest. “CC’s dope for making sure that happened,” Mitchell said. But, wait, what? So, the decision everyone thought had been made by the WNBA had some CC Magic behind it after all! She quickly tried to cover it up, saying, “Or the WNBA for that matter.”

Clark’s involvement in the decision will put faith in the hearts of the fans of the Indiana side as their Key player has chosen a tactical master. A player known for her insane precision and high scoring rate. Lexie Hull definitely sounds like the perfect woman for the job, and it becomes plenty clear when you hark back to what Clark said before a late June game against the Valkyries this season.
“The game is different when Lexie is on the floor,” Clark said. “Her energy, her tenacity, the way she affects the game–whether she’s scoring or she’s not, she’s our best defensive player, I think she is one of the best defensive players in the league. She’s active, she’s aggressive and also she shoots the ball really well. She’s made a lot of 3s for us, she’s shooting at close to 60% which is really unheard of in all of basketball, you just don’t see that”.
Clark’s comments scream the definition of an all-rounder, and that’s why she even vouched for Lexie as the most improved player in the league.
Why Lexie Hull? Looking at Caitlin Clark’s Choice For the 3-point Contest
At the midway point of the season, Lexie Hull leads the Indiana Fever in 3‑point percentage, giving her a clear statistical edge. However, that’s not all. She even ranks fourth in the league in three-point shooting percentage, having knocked down 29 of her 62 attempts, an impressive 46.8%. Her elite accuracy isn’t just a one-off either; Hull finished last season at 47.1% from beyond the arc, just 0.3% shy of leading the entire league.

What sets Hull apart isn’t her flashy stats in the WNBA, but her precision, something you’d exactly look for in a 3-point contest. What Hull brings to the court is efficiency and reliability, making her a top-notch choice for the contest. Her choice of shots on the hardwood makes her precise, technical, and tactical ability make her invaluable to the Fever side. And now she’s representing Indiana at Gainbridge Fieldhouse with her clinical scoring ability.
As disappointment crushes the hearts of basketball fans who will miss the face of the WNBA on the court, there is a light at the end of the tunnel after all. Lexie Hull is coming directly as a choice from the ESPY WNBA Player of the Year, and her numbers don’t lie. As the hours inch closer to the event, this will be, in the words of CC, “the best All-Star yet.”
