Connecticut Sun Issues Official Statement on Caitlin Clark Fan Incident with Saniya Rivers After Loss to Indiana Fever

2 min read

What was already a tense and emotionally charged game between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun took an unexpected turn courtside at TD Garden. During the second quarter, a fan wearing a Caitlin Clark No. 22 T-shirt jersey was ejected from the game after a brief but heated moment involving Sun guard Saniya Rivers. It all began as Rivers went to inbound the ball following a timeout, then abruptly stepped off the sideline to speak directly with two referees.

Well, right after the incident, fans were unsure what triggered the Sun’s guard, but finally, Sun PR has broken the silence to narrate the incident. According to them, the fan did not make any physical contact with Rivers, but said something inappropriate enough to warrant action.

Rivers, to her credit, called it out immediately and alerted both team staff and arena security. And then within minutes, the fan was identified and escorted out by security as the crowd at TD Garden booed and waved him off the court. Though the exact comment remains unclear, the fan’s removal was a rare but necessary step to ensure player safety and maintain a respectful environment, especially in a season that has seen heightened emotions and scrutiny surrounding games involving CC and the Fever.

Connecticut Sun PR confirm the fan inside TD Garden did NOT touch Saniya Rivers. He said something inappropriate and Rivers called it out and brought it to the attention of team staff and arena security

And while Clark wasn’t involved in the incident directly, the tension was palpable, both on the court and in the stands!
