Ex-Vikings Scottie Graham Mourns With OSU Nation as Buckeyes Suffer Tragic Loss of Legendary QB

3 min read

No Twitter, no message boards, NO INTERNET, no game day shows on TV – Waking up on a Saturday morning to follow a Bucks game was a simple task: Get your OJ ready and sit right next to the radio. If we sit back and compare that era to this? We think people will agree that they miss the nostalgia hit they used to get while listening to the crackle of the radio and the announcers going “OSU are your champions”. Well, change is inevitable, but how can we forget the legends who made the 80s CFB so much fun? Here’s a question from us to you: Remember that one catch by Cris Carter during the 1985 Citrus Bowl?

Arguably the greatest catch in all of OSU history – If that Down on the one-handed catch was Carter’s magnum opus, then the catalyst for it all was Jim Karsatos‘s throw. 6 seasons with OSU. Red-shirted in 81 and 82, then was “just a backup” in 83 and 84. Out of nowhere, Jim became the Bucks No.1 QB in 85. 62% on completion with a massive 19 TD run. A legend was born in Columbus. However, today, we bring the 80s and the current OSU fans very unfortunate news. Ex-Vikings Scottie Graham took to X to share the news of Jim’s passing.

This breaks our hearts – Jim was 61 when he passed. His family reported to 247Sports that the former Bucks QB had to be hospitalized because of a heart condition before ultimately passing away on Sunday. When the news of this began circulating on X, we had a hard time believing it ourselves.

Imagine the legacy this man has left behind at Columbus – 4600+ yards with a 36 TD record in 6 seasons. 85 was a massive turnaround for OSU as well. Jim went ballistic, leading the Bucks to a solid 9-3 season. The highlight reel, though, was Ohio State getting that massive 22-13 win over No.1 Iowa – AT HOME.

And the Cris Carter pass against BYU? Pure magic. Despite the new age champs breaking the oldies records, when Bucks fans found out about the news on X, naturally they were upset, and they also shared their prayers and memories about the 80s CFB era.

Buckeyes Nation mourns

“He was the starter back when only 2-3 games were televised. Had to watch the game on WOSU on Sat night or Sun morning. His connections with CC and Mike Lanese were great. RIP #16,” was what one fan wrote on X. Truly a fun time. No unnecessary social media drama, no random fights – just you and your trusty radio station.

Two other fans joined in with their condolences. One of them wrote, “Sorry to hear it. RIP.” Followed by the second fan writing, “Wow, rip Jim.” Jim truly had a fun career with football. From CFB to 3 years with the Dolphins then became a financial advisor – damn.

Finally, a fan wrote, “My awful memory…When was his last season on the sideline? RIP.” To answer the question, you can pretty much consider Jim’s NFL run as “sideline”. He didn’t play any regular-season games, unfortunately. Regardless, we do send our condolences to his family and the Buckeyes Nation.
