Waiting for his ultimate retirement fight, Dustin Poirier has repeatedly teased his next bout, though the opponent remains uncertain. On his X handle, the former interim lightweight champion wrote, “There will be blood. See you soon,” hinting at a classic war in vintage ‘Diamond’ fashion. Meanwhile, Paddy Pimblett has stepped up to challenge the outgoing fighter, a proposal that Poirier shrugged off quickly. However, his rejection caught the attention of Nate Diaz and Michael Chandler, who took it seriously.
Dustin Poirier wanted a retirement fight and Paddy Pimblett stepped forward to fight against the former interim lightweight champion. However, the Louisiana slugger was totally not keen on sharing the same Octagon with Pimblett, “It’s 100 percent not Paddy Pimblett. Legends only. I’m not gonna retire fighting a type of guy like Paddy Pimblett.” Well, Poirier’s words took a big L as Nate Diaz came forward to call out Poirier, “Fight Paddy you pu**y he better than you.”
That’s not the only L that Poirier took, as Paddy Pimblett himself came forward to support Nate Diaz. He called out the former interim lightweight champ, “@natediaz209 knows his s***, he’s a real G. @dustinpoirier fight BSD when he’s rank 12 but not me, you know what would happen.” Chiming into the roast session of Poirier, Michael Chandler joined in to issue his own statement, “Y’all are funny. Fighting Patty Pimblett is a scary fight. Just joking. Can you imagine???
‘The Diamond’ has made one thing clear—his final fight won’t be just another payday. After falling short against Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, he flirted with retirement but ultimately chose to go out on his own terms. And if he could script the perfect farewell? A high-stakes trilogy with Justin Gaethje, set in his home state—one last war before he walks away. Well, Poirier has clearly emphasized that he would like to take legacy fights.
Dustin Poirier proclaims lack of interest in Paddy Pimblett clash, looks to go out with a bang
After his last defeat against Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, Dustin Poirier emphasized that he would retire after embracing the stage one more time and he would like to face someone who could uphold his legacy rather than new fighters, who want to rise above the rankings. While having a conversation with ‘The Jim Rowe’ show ‘Diamond’ asserted that the Pimblett clash is interesting, however, he is not in the mood to fight him.
“That’s an interesting fight, but not for my retirement fight, you know? It’s legends only, man,” said Poirier. During the same conversation, the former interim lightweight champion asserted that he would like to focus on his family now even though he has more fights left in him, “I have 50-something cage fights. Like I said, I still have more to give, there’s a lot of opportunities and big fights that can be made, but I’ve just been doing it so long, and I’m in a place with my other ventures and my family. I want to be, you know, I want to be home in the regular routine, and I’ve given this sport a lot, and I think I’ve given it enough.”
With a career record of 30 victories and 9 defeats, Dustin Poirer has spent over a decade under the UFC management and has one of the best runs within the promotion. We must note that in his entire MMA career, he has never faced two consecutive defeats. As he looks ahead to his life, what is your favorite moment in his career?
