Just when you thought Mondo Duplantis couldn’t raise the bar any higher, he decided to shock everyone. It was one of those memorable evenings in Stockholm, June 15th, to be exact. The historic Olympic Stadium, built in 1912, was rocking with anticipation. And Mondo? He delivered. The reigning Olympic champion pole vaulter cleared 6.28m (20ft 6in) on his very first attempt, setting a new world record for the 12th time. The moment was boasted legacy. Mondo let out a roar, tore off his shirt, and sprinted toward his support team as the crowd exploded. And now, he talks of what might be quite a bold personal leap, much away from the pole…
Reflecting on the jump, he said: “I’m going to keep pushing forward like always. I’m going to jump higher. I’m just going to enjoy this, enjoy the moment right now. There’s not much between me and 6.30, technically. It’s just a few centimeters. I’m just a perfect day away from it. It gets a little tougher as it gets higher though. I think technically, physically, and everything like that I am right there.” But just hours later, boom, curveball. While the athletics world was still catching its breath, Mondo made a surprising admission that had nothing to do with pole vaults or stadiums.
“I’m going to release a song in two weeks,” he revealed. “It has nothing to do with setting the World Record right now, it just happens to be that way.” Wait. A song? Again? Oh yes, this isn’t his first musical leap. Mondo Duplantis’s debut single “Bop” featuring the cheeky, viral line “When you drop it like that, it’s a bop” actually charted at #31 on the Swedish singles chart back in February. And now, just weeks after vaulting over history, he’s ready to drop a new track titled “4L”, short for “For Life”, which he describes as a romantic record.
What then will become of the flying Swede? Well, this September in Tokyo, in the World Championships of 2025, that is his goal, but Mondo is putting it to rest that he is not out there simply to break records. He is seeking rhythms as well. But, Mondo Duplantis does not only vault around the pole, but also is a musician. But more than that.
The many lives of Mondo Duplantis
It is hard to be a top athlete. But an elite athlete who is, as well, a superstar in fashion, music, advertising, and charity? That is thin air, and should there be a trophy for doing it all, Mondo Duplantis would have already received it. His pole vaulting speaks for itself, 12 world records and counting, but outside the track, he’s rewriting what it means to be a modern sports icon.
In fashion, he’s partnered with Eton Shirts, walked front rows with Dior and Tommy Hilfiger, and turned heads at Coachella alongside fiancée Desire Inglander. He’s fronted major campaigns for Puma and Red Bull, earning rumored contracts worth hundreds of thousands. Add to that appearances in ads for Omega, Aqua Dental, and more, and it’s clear: brands see him as the future. But it’s not just about image, Mondo gives back, too. As a Wings for Life World Run ambassador, he supports spinal cord research, and in 2024, he even raced and beat 400m hurdles legend Karsten Warholm in a 100m dash, clocking 10.37s.
Then, in April 2025, it all came full circle. Mondo Duplantis was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, joining legends like Usain Bolt as only the second track athlete and the first ever field athlete to win the honor. He also swept Sweden’s Idrottsgalan Awards, including Male Athlete of the Year. So yes, while he’s planning his next song release and keeping one eye on Tokyo 2025, Mondo Duplantis is proving that no matter the arena, runway, studio, or track, he’s built to rise.
