‘What a Clown’: After Scottie Scheffler, Fans Grill Jon Rahm Over On-Course Outburst

4 min read

Just a few days ago, everyone witnessed Scottie Scheffler’s temper flare up during the third round of the WM Phoenix Open. The usually calm and collected world No.1 had an average day going at TPC Scottsdale, but things took a turn for the worse on the par-5 15th hole. After flaring his tee shot right, Scheffler attempted a bold second shot from 248 yards, but it ended up in the water.

To make matters worse, he then missed the green from just 89 yards after taking a drop. A visibly frustrated Scheffler then took out his anger on his golf bag, a rare display of emotion from the reigning Masters champion. Well, Scottie Scheffler is not the only one who let his emotions get the better of him recently – Jon Rahm also had a meltdown at LIV Riyadh. The Spaniard, known for wearing his heart on his sleeve, was visibly angry after missing a putt on the 18th hole, which cost him a chance to win.

Rahm was seen lamenting the miss, staring at the greens in disgust, and shouting “You have to be absolutely kidding me!” at the top of his lungs, reported NUCLR Golf on X. Despite his frustration, Rahm’s second-place finish to Meronk was still a good result, helping his Legion XIII team to a somewhat satisfactory win.

Fans are visibly disappointed by the lack of sportsmanship from Rahm and they are not one step behind in expressing their feelings.

Netizens bash Jon Rahm in comments

Starting off strong, one fan said, “Wow, cool drama,” while the other said, “At least he can cry with his millions.” Well, it looks like fans still haven’t let go of the drama surrounding Jon Rahm’s move to LIV Golf, and for good reason – his contract is a whopping $300 million-plus deal that runs for multiple years! According to reports, Rahm’s contract is the largest in LIV Golf history, and it’s locked him in until 2028. The Spanish golfer made the jump to LIV in the 2024 season, and it’s clear that the investment is a significant one.

One fan wrote, “lol what a clown show…everything about it”, while the other said, “Relax Bro. Nobody really cares what’s going on over there.” So, it is true that LIV Golf’s struggle with viewership has been an ongoing issue for some time now. Despite its high-profile signings and lucrative events, the Saudi-based league continues to lag far behind the PGA Tour in terms of viewership numbers. While the PGA Tour can still manage to draw around 1 million viewers for events like the Scottish Open, LIV Golf averages a mere 150,000 viewers per event, highlighting the significant gap between the two.

One fan bluntly said, “What a joke,” while the other took a jab at the golfer, “The dude hit a shitty putt, can see it right away.” Well, this isn’t the first time the golfer has missed crucial putts, as Jon Rahm has struggled with his putting in several high-profile tournaments. Notably, at the PGA Championship, Rahm faced a makeable 8-foot putt on the 18th hole in his second round, but unfortunately, the ball slid past the hole before curling as intended. Similarly, during his title defense at the Masters, Rahm’s putting woes contributed to a disappointing tied-45th finish, highlighting the ongoing challenges he has faced on the greens. Maybe his time in the 2025 season can change that, as a fresh start and newfound focus could be just what Rahm needs to turn his putting fortunes around.
