“Heavyweight news. Coming soon.” Tom Aspinall had caught the entire world’s attention with these words as he put forth a post on Instagram. The post showed just a date along with a montage. And the date was indeed 28.05.2025. However, the announcement did not correlate with the fighting community’s expectations. The world seemed to believe that it’d be something about his next fight. They wanted to know if it’d be Jon Jones or Ciryl Gane that Aspinall would go up against. But alas! It turned out to be something else altogether.
In that same previous post, Aspinall joked that he would likely fight for a new belt—The interim of the interim BMF UFC heavyweight title. For the well-versed, it was a subtle jibe at Jon Jones for arguably ducking the unification fight. However, the British heavyweight champion also pointed out that he never announced his fights. That was the UFC’s role. No wonder the fans were already upset about it.
Now, a post on Instagram has been going viral that reflects on Aspinall’s “heavyweight news.” Therein, the interim heavyweight champion could be heard saying, “This game will test everything. Your body, your mind, your patience. You don’t get here alone. My family, my team, my pack. Every day, we show up. Quiet. Focused. Ready. A heavyweight mind. It’s not just fight night. It’s every single moment before it. That’s a Champion.” And in the background, we can see some pretty cool visuals featuring the British heavyweight. However, it was nothing more than a collaborative work with Champion, the clothing brand. Yes, there was no mention of Jones of Gane.
The caption of the post certainly hyped up Aspinall as an elite warrior. The clothing company claimed that the Brit was, in fact, a heavyweight with a middleweight’s agility. Later on, Aspinall took to his IG profile and wrote, “I’m thrilled to be partnering with Champion, a brand with global reach and deep roots in sport. Champion’s values really reflect who I am and what I want to do in MMA. This is the year of the true undisputed champion. Someone who stays true to themself, dedicated to the sport, never says no to a fight and connects with the people who matter: the fans.”
Needless to say, the fighting realm was pretty unhappy with the revelation. As soon as the collaboration post hit the social media platform, the fight fans took over the comments section and revealed their thoughts. Let’s see what the fighting community had to say.
Fans express their disappointment at Tom Aspinall’s announcement
Most of the fans were quick to express their disappointment. After all, they wanted nothing but an announcement regarding Aspinall’s next fight. One of the fans wrote, “Bro really let us down.” Another fan, in his disappointment, added, “Tom, you’re better than this.” Meanwhile, a few of the fans believed that it was all a lie. One of the comments read, “Really? Claiming “big news” just do do a clothing ad? great way to make everybody feel like you lied to them.”
Some of the fans decided to bring in a bit of mockery. And in a mocking tone, one fan commented, “seriously… this is the announcement we were waiting for..?” A few others declared that they were actually happy for Aspinall’s new deal. Yet, they wanted just one news from him. One of the comments went like, “Happy for you tom, but not the news us fans wanted right now. At this point, its either msg in november or no fight.”

On the other hand, some of the fans pushed Aspinall to sign the online petition to strip ‘Bones’ of his title. One of the fans commented, “Sign the petition to strip Jon Jones of the belt. It already has 100,000 signatures. We must end this madness.” It was indeed a bit too long since we had a heavyweight championship fight. And the inactivity was getting on the fans’ nerves. Furthermore, a fan wrote, “Bro pulled a Jon.”
