There’s just something about male friendships. They might fight with each other and even tease each other, but here’s the thing. The more they bully or roast each other, the better friends they are. What better example than Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman? After all, not only were they teammates, but they also are co-hosts of the ‘Dudes on Dudes Podcast.’ If you’ve seen them either on the podcast or their individual Instagram pages, you know what we mean when we say there can’t be two people who are more fun than these two are and better friends.
While they mainly talk about football, the two friends have their moments, posting very random videos at times. Ranging from ‘dancing for how much we like the restaurant’ to the latest one of ‘I make the face, you make the sound.’ And honestly, it’s better content than entertainment television. The premise of their latest video is simple. One makes the face, and the other makes the sound matching the face. What follows is complete chaos as the two keep making weird faces and then making noises to match them, even surprising each other at times.
However, one unfortunate victim of this video was Rob Ninkovich. Let me explain. While Gronk made a crying face, Julian made a crying sound to match the face. Ideally, Gronk should’ve stopped when Julian stopped making the noise, but as always, he was onto something. Gronk, taking this opportunity, mimicked Ninkovich and said in his voice, “I’m Rob Ninkovich, Coach Belichick benched me.” Although to set the record straight, Ninkovich was never benched by Belichick; it was still pretty hilarious.
American model/TV show host and Gronk’s partner Camille Kostek also joined the banter in the comments section. “About time @nink50 gets trolled ,” she said before Rob Ninkovich himself made an appearance to teach the two a lesson. As soon as Ninkovich came into the comments section, he delivered an absolute mic-drop moment. He wrote, “90 consecutive games started a stat neither of you wine glasses could ever achieve….” taking a dig at both of them and boasting of the time when he started every game between 2011 and 2015. And if you thought Ninkovich was done with one comment. Well…you’re wrong.
Ninkovich came back and then uploaded a GIF of a wine glass breaking, writing another comment below it. “Robs Arm / Jules Foot….Fragile,” he wrote this time, referring to the arm injuries that have troubled Gronk from the time he broke his forearm initially in 2o12. On the other hand, or if we may say foot, it was a reference to Julian Edelman’s knee injuries, which forced him to retire later in his career. If you’re looking at his comments and thinking, ‘how mean,’ well, don’t. Remember what we said about male friendships: the meaner they are, the better they are. This is just the way Ninkovich, Gronk, and Edelman are with each other; after all, they were and are very close friends.
It’s not just after retirement that Gronk and Edelman started doing crazy stuff together, though. They had their quota of having fun and going viral during their playing days as well. One such instance was when the two visited Nantucket Island for the Memorial Day weekend and ended up getting screamed at by Coach Belichick.
Gronkowski recalls wild party that left Belichick fuming
Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski were great players, but greater party heads. While the two never let the partying affect their play on the field. They did go overboard this one time in 2016, and Coach Belichick was so not pleased with them. Something Gronk swears still gives him nightmares.
It was Memorial Day weekend, and taking the opportunity, Gronk and Julian went to Nantucket Island. Being the personalities that they were, the two got VIP treatment. Hell, they even got a golf cart to take them from one place to another. Gronk recalled this incident on an episode of Bussin’ with the Boys. “We were on a golf cart, we were in the back, Julian and I doing our thing, and the golf cart lifted up in the air, the front tyres, and we landed on the ground,” Gronk said, further revealing that the video went viral and reached Coach Belichick. Who, as expected, did not mince his words when the two returned to training.
Gronk remembers them running and sweating three days later in training when New England Patriots’ Coach Belichick approached them. “Get all that f—— s— out of your system. I saw you two idiots this weekend, you guys are f—— fools,” yells Belichick as Gronk remembers the next words that the coach said. “Keep running.” That was the punishment for Gronk and Julian for going overboard on the weekend.
Gronk, however, also shared that Coach Belichick had a no-nonsense coaching philosophy. The coach also made sure Gronk always knew how to maintain the limits. After all, Coach Belichick was the only one who could tame the party animal within Gronk.
