The NFL offseason is in top gear, and most of the teams are concreting their strategies. The rookies are now very much into the franchise cultures, the 2025 schedule is also out, the OTAs have started, and most importantly, the season starter is just around the corner. The teams are on their toes, and one of them is Mike Macdonald‘s Seattle Seahawks. The team is locked in for the 2025 NFL season. But… There is one problem.
As we know, Sam Darnold‘s team is trying every way to get better this season. And one of the most important parts of that process are joint practice sessions. First of all, Matt LaFleur’s Green Bay Packers have accepted Mike Macdonald’s request. But Andy Reid turned down the request. While dropping this shocking update for the Seahawks, NFL reporter Brady Henderson wrote, “Mike Macdonald wanted to have joint practices with another preseason opponent, but neither Pete Carroll nor Andy Reid do them.” So, the Seattle team will now have at least one joint session to test their mettle.
The Seahawks are expected to hold joint practices with the Packers in Green Bay ahead of their Aug. 23 preseason finale, as @mattschneidman said.

In Andy Reid’s case, the Chiefs will face the Seahawks only once in the upcoming season. They will go head-to-head in the preseason only, that is, on August 15. The Chiefs have never held a joint practice session in history. And it’s likely they are not in any mood to change history. The Seahawks also have the first game of the pre-season scheduled against the Raiders, but Pete Carroll leaves no chance for Mike Macdonald’s team to know their secret moves. Actually, Macdonald has already planned these sessions.
On April 1, 2025, Henderson also reported that Mike Macdonald wants to do joint practices again this summer, ideally both at home and on the road. The Seahawks practiced against the Titans in Nashville before their preseason game last year. Macdonald clearly sees value in live reps in a controlled environment vs. another team.
But it’s actually shocking how Pete Carroll rejected an offer from his former team, where he spent years. Well, no worries, the Packers have accepted their request. Now both the teams, the Seahawks and the Packers, will be having a preseason joint practice session. Let’s dive in to know more.
The Packers accepted Mike Macdonald’s request
The 2nd-year Seahawks head coach is changing the basic structure of the franchise in terms of practice, preparation. As we know, they held a joint practice session with the Titans last year before week 2 of the preseason. This time, the Packers will be involved in their sessions. The Seahawks will be facing the Packers in week 3 of the preseason. But before stepping on the gridiron, they will have a session.
According to The Athletic beat reporter and an NFL reporter, Matt Schneidman, “The Green Bay Packers will be hosting the Seahawks for joint practices ahead of their preseason matchup this summer. This will be ahead of both teams’ final preseason game of the year, scheduled for Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m. PT), August 23 at Lambeau Field.” The Seattle Seahawks have Sam Darnold, who led the Vikings with a 14-3 record in the previous season. While the Packers have Jordan Love, who also led the team to the playoffs last season,n but ended the season against the Eagles.
The Seahawks ended up 10-7 in 2024, which was a bit below-average performance. But this time, Mike Macdonald is not likely to repeat the same. But with a new QB it looks difficult. In Darnold’s last game of the previous season, he was sacked nine times. So, the team will have to get familiar with the new QB. Let’s see what will happen.
