Garrett Nussmeier’s Former Protector Drops 3-word Message For His Girlfriend After Major Feat

4 min read

Here’s a fun little love-meets-football tale out of Baton Rouge. And this isn’t about Garrett Nussmeier flexing his skills on the field. This one’s got a bit more heart and a whole lot of dog hair. We all know the LSU QB could’ve jumped ship to the next level after the 2024 season. That was the plan. Graduate together with his girlfriend Ella Springfield and leave the campus together. But unexpected setbacks such as the Bryce Underwood flip locked him in for one more season with Brian Kelly. But the couple isn’t folding. Instead, this decision is only making them stronger as is seen from Ella’s supportive statement, “So beyond proud of the person you are. Cannot wait to see all you do this next year!!” No GF drama here, just outstanding support.

You see, Ella Springfield graduated back in December. But on May 21, she took to Instagram to drop some stunning LSU grad photos. White dress, purple and gold robes, and one very important guest star — her dog Ace. That’s Mister Man to you. The loyal black-and-white ball of fluff who pretty much follows her everywhere when Garrett Nussmeier is busy on the field. In her caption, she wrote, “Better late than never?” But it’s the comments section that shone the spotlight on both her and Ace. Former LSU OT Will Campbell had a three-word comment that had fans grinning — “Ace’s legal guardian.” No lies there.

Will Campbell, who was selected by the New England Patriots as the fourth overall pick, shares a unique relationship with Garrett Nussmeier. He’s not just his protector on the field, he also happens to be dating the QB’s sister Ashlynn. So yeah, he was pretty much protecting his brother-in-law in LSU while dating his sister. Welcome to the LSU version of Meet the Parents. So this bond has real family vibes.

While Ella Springfield didn’t get to toss her grad cap alongside Garrett Nussmeier, Ace made sure she wasn’t alone. Fresh off her graduation day in late December, she showed the world just how much her furry companion meant to her by posting him online with the caption, “I am obsessed with you.” So whether it’s Mister Man third-wheeling their LSU photo ops or being dubbed her “favorite road trip buddy,” he’s keeping things fluffy while Nussmeier and the Tigers grind through spring.

Ella Springfield didn’t miss Garrett Nussmeier’s graduation

Not in a million years. On May 14, Ella Springfield was back in Baton Rouge, beaming next to Garrett Nussmeier in full LSU grad gear with Tiger Stadium in the background. And it’s love in the foreground. The caption is simple but emotional — “Time flies ” And once again, Ace is right there, stealing camera time. In the last picture, the Tigers QB wore a red robe holding a degree that read, “Edward S. Marcus High School, Diploma og Graduation.”

From high school to Tiger Stadium, this couple has been through it all. The latest chapter? Garrett Nussmeier wrapped up a tremendous season with 4,052 yards and 29 TDs and a Heisman worthy hype train rolling into 2025 while Ella gets ready to don her support cap. ESPN’s Rece Davis even feels the LSU senior QB could be the top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Tall talk but not baseless because he’s just 3,343 yards short of becoming LSU’s all-time leading passer. That’s one more big year and his name will be etched in the Tigers’ history.

So while Ella Springfield and Ace are holding it down off the field, Garrett Nussmeier is set to make his final Baton Rouge lap count
