The sirens aren’t new. In Texas, especially in the spring, tornado warnings are part of the rhythm — alerts you hear so often they start to sound routine, until they’re not. For Erin Bradshaw, the daughter of Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw and a decorated equestrian in her own right, the reality of storm season became something else entirely this year: personal, devastating, and unforgettable.
On March 6, a tornado ripped across the Bradshaw family’s ranch, tearing down sheds and leaving behind more than just splintered wood. One young foal was killed. Another mare was left injured. It was the kind of loss you can’t quite prepare for, no matter how many seasons you’ve lived through or how strong the fences are.
Fast forward to the 18th of May, Texas, particularly North Texas, went through a long night of storms and tornadoes. While at her home, Erin again shared an update on her Instagram story. Sharing a small video of her backyard and ranch, with heavily overcast conditions, “Second round of storms last night. One tornado siren. Two take cover notifications. Equals the most gorgeous evening tonight!” she wrote, trying to look at the positive side of things. Classic Erin. With the recurring storms and tornadoes at this time, you would think that she would be tired of Texas. On the contrary, “Texas will get you at this time of year but she is pretty!,” Erin exclaimed while sharing her love for the state despite the storms. That tension, between devastation and devotion, between heartbreak and humor, is where Erin Bradshaw’s story lives right now. And like her father, she’s choosing to face it with grit, grace, and a little bit of gallows humor.
After all, it was in Texas that she had an early start to what would turn into her career. According to Erin Bradshaw, she was just 5 years old when she jumped into the world of Equestrianism. My dad put me on a horse when I was 5 and really let me start living that dream,” Erin had told Cowgirl Magazine once. Since then, there was no turning back or dismounting from the idea. Erin has throughout her career won Non-Pro 2, Non-Pro 3, Amateur Junior Pleasure, and Amateur Senior Pleasure events along with her favorite horse, Elicious aka Eli.
However, it now seems Eli may have to move on from participating in events with Erin. This is because a recent update regarding her career from Erin has left her fans and followers confused. Leaving everyone to question whether Erin is just joking or is hinting at something bigger.
Erin Bradshaw calls it a day?
Erin, a world champion equestrian, has spent her life surrounded by horses. So, it was a match made in heaven when she married Scott Weiss, a horse trainer, also from Texas. Since then, Erin and her husband, Scott, have been training and breeding horses on their Texas ranch. It was just a couple of days ago that while staying inside with her husband and her daughter on a stormy night, she posted an Instagram story.
In the story that Erin shared, she talked about how they were not stressed from the storm and were just enjoying life. “We’ve hit retirement status. We are watching a storm with an alcoholic drink,” she had written in the story. This caused quite some confusion amongst fans about whether Erin had really retired or if this was one of her jokes. Well, luckily for her fans, she has not retired and was just joking around with the vibes of retired life.
Hopefully, now we can still expect to see her win more world championships with her horse Eli. Talk about taking a page out of her father’s life, who, despite multiple health issues, still wishes to continue at FOX and even jokes about dying on the show. “Think about the ratings, right?” he said. “Are we not about ratings? That’d be huge. Not only that, there would be a huge carryover,” he told FOX jokingly.
