Patrick Mahomes Reflects on High School ‘Dream’ With Wife Brittany After Revealing 11-Year Tradition

4 min read

We all know Patrick Mahomes now as a three-time Super Bowl champion and two-time MVP. As well as the player who has redefined quarterback excellence in the NFL. But what about his stomping grounds? We never talk about how a young Patrick, interested in basketball and football in high school, threw for 8,000 yards and 90 touchdowns in his final two seasons for the Whitehouse Wildcats to graduate as a 3-star prospect going into college.

And that has stuck with Pat ever since. He hasn’t let go of where it started. Fast forward 11 years, and the Chiefs quarterback is now officially inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. Safe to say that he’s returning not just as a football icon but as someone who never forgot the view from the high school bleachers.

But what’s the most precious moment for Pat from high school? A photo from back in the day. Mahomes under center, Brittany on the sideline in a cheer uniform. “It was really cool when you see the kind of display and it’s a picture of me and Brittany in high school… and we’re living out the dream now,” Mahomes said during an interview with Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

That image, frozen in time, was more than just a memory.  Now we can say that it was the beginning of something both personal and historic. “To have my entire family here… it’s special, because this is what I wanted, this is where I wanted to be at.”

With that prestigious honor Mahomes also revealed he’s teaming up with Adidas to launch Team Mahomes, which will partner with 15 high schools: starting with Whitehouse. “As a part of this recognition… I’m proud to announce that @adidasfballus and I are signing 15 high schools to Team Mahomes that will represent my Gladiator logo,” he shared. For Texas high school athletes, this is more than gear. It’s Mahomes circling back to give the next generation something he never had. A path paved by someone who actually walked it.

Brittany was there for all of it, just like she’s been since day one. She posted “Go Wildcats” from the ceremony, a nod to both their shared history and how far they’ve come. Well, we all know what’s the cover gonna be for the next edition of the local magazine.

Patrick Mahomes revealed the magazine tribute

It’s been over a decade since Patrick Mahomes walked the halls of Whitehouse High. But somehow, he’s never really left. At least not in print. Ever since he graduated in 2014, Mahomes has been a regular face on the cover of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. That’s eleven straight years, and counting!

Now, with his recent induction into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, that streak doesn’t look like it’s ending anytime soon. “Still to this day,” Mahomes shared, “I have a guy that runs our media in Kansas City—and he brings me the magazine every single year and hands it to me and tells me all about the Whitehouse Wildcats and what we’re going to do this year.” It’s the kind of full-circle detail that doesn’t need dressing up. The kid from East Texas who threw for nearly 5,000 yards his senior year? Still front-page material. Still part of the conversation back home.

The tribute isn’t just about stats or covers, though. It’s a visual reminder of what Mahomes means to Whitehouse and what Whitehouse still means to him. When asked about the impact of Dave Campbell’s legacy, Mahomes didn’t flinch. “Everybody knew about the communities. There were movies about it. But no one could really put it all together. And Dave Campbell did that with his magazines.” For a state where high school football borders on religion, Campbell was more than just a storyteller. He documented the gospel.

So this year, as Mahomes joins the Hall of Fame and likely lands back on the cover again, the message is clear. He may be a three-time Super Bowl champ now. But to Whitehouse, he’s still QB1. Still theirs.
