Tom Aspinall may be one of the UFC’s toughest heavyweights, but outside the Octagon, his biggest fight recently took place in a hospital room. So, what happened? Did he injure himself while preparing for a possible fight against Jon Jones? Well, not exactly. The interim champion recently opened up about a terrifying health scare involving his son. While he has fought some of the fiercest men in MMA, the Briton described his latest ER visit as one of the most challenging experiences his family had in their lives.
Taking to his Instagram account, Aspinall uploaded a picture with his son along with a caption that expressed his appreciation to the medical personnel who assisted his son’s recovery, describing how critical the situation had become. “It’s not often I use social media for my personal life, but in this case, I’d like to use my platform for my gratitude. Unfortunately, my son had a health scare and was in hospital for some time, where at some points, it became very scary and potentially life-threatening.”
The UFC interim heavyweight champion, who has three children, has always been honest about the challenges of parenting, especially because his oldest kid is autistic. He has already described the difficulty of raising a neurodivergent child, but this latest ordeal put his family to the test in an entirely different way. The Briton and his son fought bravely; as a result, Aspinall expressed gratitude to his support system. Further in the caption, he thanked his followers and loved ones for their support during this difficult time.
Tom Aspinall wrote, “This post is nothing more than a message of gratitude for the medical team at Bolton Hospital who helped him get back to full health… Today, my son finally walked out of the hospital and returned home healthy!!” Fans would be glad to hear that little Aspinall proved to be as brave as his father, as he has finally walked back home after a full recovery. Now, it is time for his father to get his fight against Jon Jones and possibly win it. After all, he has earned the trust of Dana White as well.
Tom Aspinall’s fight plan gets Dana White’s approval
With his kid safely back home, Tom Aspinall can return his focus back to his profession. And it appears that his long-awaited fight with Jon Jones is finally on the way. Despite Jones’ initial lack of enthusiasm in facing him, UFC CEO Dana White has stated time and again that the fight will take place. In fact, he even described it as a life-changing chance for the British heavyweight.
Speaking to Piers Morgan, the UFC head honcho admitted that Aspinall has been keen to fight the best, including ‘Bones.’ Dana White was impressed by Aspinall’s unwavering belief in his abilities to defeat ‘Bones.’ “I love that in a young, aggressive, talented heavyweight, that he actually wants to fight all the best… Tom Aspinall wants to fight all the best in the world, and I love that.” He further added, “Very good. We’re gonna find out, though. Obviously, a fight like that for a young, talented heavyweight… if he can beat Jon Jones, it’s life-changing.”
For the Briton, this is more than just another fight. It’s an opportunity to establish himself as the world’s undisputed heavyweight champion. With White backing the fight and Jon Jones’ return looming, the biggest bout of Aspinall’s career appears to be becoming a reality. So, what do you think?
