A member of the New York Athletic Club, Greco-Roman wrestler RaVaughn Perkins, is in need of serious help. The standout wrestler of the USA wrestling team, with his hard work, had his own way of dealing with setbacks on his own, rather than making it a much more public event. Not only this but he had the nature of a giver who was always ready to help out those in need.
But circumstances today have come to a situation where he himself is in need of help. An unexpected turnover of his life came with such devastation that it could affect his career majorly. Left with several injuries from an incident, Perkins is now in need of support from others.
How RaVaughn Perkins can be supported
On January 23, RaVaughn Perkins was involved in a severe motor vehicle accident. And while no one else was harmed, the accident left the wrestler with several internal and external injuries, including a dislocated hip, a broken pelvis, and a fractured knee. Hospitalized and waiting to recover, the wrestler is undergoing treatment at the moment.
With a long recovery process awaiting, Perkins, who was supposed to be competing for a spot on the 2025 World Team in the 72kg category, has a tough battle ahead. In light of the recent events, Team USA head coach Herb House has initiated an act of goodwill on behalf of the wrestler, who is currently in critical condition and in no shape to ask for help himself.
A Go Fund Me campaign has been started for people wanting to donate and help the wrestler to bear his healthcare expenses. Intended to cover his surgery and physical care, the support comes as an act to unite his well-wishers, including the ones from the wrestling community. At this stage, there is no telling when Perkins will be able to step on the mat again. He has, however, already made a name for himself.
RaVaughn Perkins is a promising US wrestler
When it comes to RaVaughn Perkins, the wrestler has been a valuable member of USA Wrestling. Versatile in his own right, he has competed in multiple weight categories. Moreover, as a Nebraska USA wrestling team member from the 2007-2010 season, the Omaha native holds two National Championship wins in consecutive seasons.
Although Perkins’ quick arm-drags, throw-bys, and shucks brought him a fair deal of success on the mat, he has had his disappointments as well. A case in point would be 2016. Despite winning the U.S Olympic Team Trials, his dream to secure a berth in the Rio Games was shattered by Edgaras Venckaitis of Lithuania in the Olympic Qualification match in Mongolia. But did he stay down?
No. RaVaughn Perkins got back up and won two back-t0-back Pan Am Games in 2018 and 2019. But just to say that he won gold barely scratches the surface. Although he could not qualify for the 2016 Olympics himself, Perkins defeated the 2016 Olympian and 2019 Pan Am Games runner-up Wuileixis Rivas Espinosa to win the 2018 Pan Am Games gold. And what’s more? Most of his games across the two Pan Am Games were one-sided, with most of his opponents struggling to stay on the mat beyond the six-minute mark.
His accolades are as much a testament to RaVaughn Perkins’ perseverance as they are to his abilities as a wrestler. While he is fighting his own battle in the hospital at the moment, he needs his fans and admirers to stand by his side.
