Beau Alex De Minaur Pokes Fun at Partner Katie Boulter After Her Impressive Clay Court Run

5 min read

Alex de Minaur and fiancée Katie Boulter know how to keep their relationship fun, even in tense moments. After his fourth-round win over American Alex Michelsen at the Australian Open, De Minaur joked to former pro Laura Robson, “When I’m on the court, and you see me so stressed out, I’m just thinking of the wedding budget.” His cheeky remark sparked laughs and revealed his playful side under pressure. They don’t shy away from supporting each other during matches, and their witty banter continues in lively comments on each other’s social media posts. This time is no exception!

Currently, Boulter is competing in Paris at the Trophée Clarins 125K series tournament. After a disappointing first-round exit at the Italian Open, she launched a stunning run here. As the second seed, she opened by beating Erika Andreeva, then took down Daria Saville.

On Friday, she made the semis after defeating French qualifier Elsa Jacquemot 6-4, 1-6, 6-2! It’s a big step for the British No.1. She holds a 26-11 win-loss record on clay with a 55% overall percentage. Clay isn’t her best surface, but she’s proving she’s growing. To celebrate, the Briton posted a picture from Paris captioned, “Me and this red stuff are very very slowly becoming friends .” Her beau couldn’t resist a playful dig!

De Minaur commented, “Ohhhhhh Fwwwwwieeeeeeends,” teasing her for calling clay a “friend.” The two have been together since 2020 and got engaged late last year. But don’t let the banter fool you, the couple are a constant presence in each other’s player boxes, offering support and celebrating every win. De Minaur cheered for Boulter at the Australian Open in January 2025. She returned the favor at his matches, including the Madrid Open in April 2025. Their encouragement on tour is as strong as their bond off the court.

Recently, Katie shared a delightful Instagram carousel from their Italian getaway. The series started with her standing beside a scenic Roman bridge, followed by stunning city views, a clay court snapshot, a cozy restaurant moment, a joyful cycling scene, and ended with the couple strolling hand-in-hand through Rome’s charming streets. The photos radiated warmth and genuine connection. What stole the spotlight was Alex’s cheeky comment: “I thought I was not a good photographer…..” His playful humor perfectly captured their fun-loving vibe off the court.

Last month, Katie stirred fans on X with a hilarious post: “Get married win slam Have a baby win 500 .” With Alex one match away from winning the ATP 500 ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam, fans quickly connected the dots. His reply? “You got any ideas you wanna share with me???.” Classic De Minaur.

Through all the jokes and banter, their love remains rock solid. Katie calls herself the “luckiest woman in the world” after meeting Alex. Their relationship shines in every shared moment. They never miss a chance to celebrate the support they give each other-both on and off the court.

Alex de Minaur on how the couple support each other through the good and bad

Katie Boulter doesn’t hold back when talking about her biggest supporter. She said, “He (De Minaur) puts me before himself all the time and takes care of the people around him – his family and his team. He’s my best example of what I want to be.” That’s some real admiration!

Though they’re often apart on tour, they make every moment count. After Katie’s second-round exit at the Australian Open in January 2024, she didn’t miss a beat-she was right there in the stands, cheering Alex on during his third-round match against Flavio Cobolli. Even with her own disappointment, her energy showed just how strong their support for each other really is.

So, is this the secret that helps them lift each other through wins and losses, putting their own court battles aside? De Minaur nails it: “I mean, ultimately that’s what we try to do right. It’s never easy, we’re both competitive, and we always want to win, right? So, I guess it’s our job to help each other to kind of help in that way and be the best possible support we can be to each other when we have the good days and the bad days and kind of always stay constant, right.” True champions on and off the court!

This season has been a bit tricky for Katie, sitting at a 6-6 record. Reflecting on her recent loss, Alex said, “You know she had a tough loss, she had a good first-round win, and you know it’s still developing on the clay and she has improved so much. So the way it kind of goes is just you jump on the wagon and on goes the next week, and she’s so good with that, she’s great to have around, and I’m looking forward to you know just spending more and more time with her during these tournaments.” That’s what real teamwork looks like! Their chemistry even snagged the ATP Socials ‘Couple Goals’ award last November.

Now, with Alex gearing up for Roland Garros on May 25 and Katie chasing a semifinal spot at the Trophée Clarins 125K, fans are buzzing-will they push each other to snag a title? Drop your thoughts below!
