Miss Terry has had the first-row seat to Nick Saban’s coaching career. Starting at Michigan State, followed by LSU, a brief stint in the NFL, and then a legendary run for Alabama, she has been there in all the highs and lows—the national championships, the tough losses. In January 2024, when Nick Saban hung up his coaching boots, he was no longer a part of the everyday grind of college football. It seems like a loss; however, what he gained was quality time with his loved ones. That includes Miss Terry, his children and, yes, the third generation as well—his grandkids. However, spending ‘time’ here doesn’t just mean long walks or evening dinners. There’s a grind to home life as well, and the former Bama head coach is going through it.
Miss Terry had Coach Saban on the household chores as per a pre-retirement deal. Saban’s strenuous schedule in college earned him six national championship titles. But it took away the most precious family time from him. Coach Saban has become a brand all over Tuscaloosa. He literally made it difficult for any of his successors to even come close to his trademark standard. However, when he returned home, he often felt nervous and anxious.
After his goodbye to coaching football, Nick Saban had to wait a bit before deciding to sign off. Reason? His wife couldn’t decide on the proper amount of punishment he deserved for all those sleepless nights with the team and the missed Sunday morning breakfasts.
Even after a year and a half of that retirement day, Saban gets the most identical yet relevant question. How’s life? As Paul Finebaum repeated the trend, highlighting how the coach looks unwearied, Saban spilled the reason. “I am good not having anything to do, you know. The day I retired, Miss Terry gave me the Ten Commandments of Retirement. Just within one week, she said ten is not enough,” the veteran coach said with a grin in his eyes. “So, I am not ready to retire. I need something to do. Keep busy, stay out of her hair. And I like working, you know.”

What does the new gig consist of? Well, now he knows where most of the light switches in the house are. Terry has hilariously revealed that now she doesn’t have to wait an eternity to get a reply to her text. Saban’s speed has now improved to one and a half words per minute from one word per minute in the past. After he’s done with his ESPN commitment, the coach knows it’s important to stay indoors and play some cards, maybe indulging in some quality time.
Having breakfast together is also on the couple’s new post-retirement agenda. “I make my bed. I take the garbage out. I have to wait for her to eat together. And I have to leave a little food just because that’s polite to tell people that you really thought it was good,. Saban spilled the entire decorum code set by his personal coach at home, “I grew up cleaning my plate, which is not kosher anymore.”
That’s freaking cute. But Kristen Saban, meanwhile, is dealing with a major FOMO of not accompanying his dad to a classic annual event.
Kristen Saban pines over missing out on a major Nick Saban event
Despite Saban being a busy, no-nonsense, workaholic head coach all his life, he has always been his daughter’s comfort place. Kristen has always been the loudest cheerleader for her father. From attending every Bama game to chiming in on all game details and controversies, Coach Saban’s daughter has been a face in Alabama, mostly in Coach Saban’s social life.
But this time, it’s different. When Nick Saban showed up at the Greystone Founders Course in Birmingham, Alabama, in his usual calm and classy style, his beloved daughter wasn’t there to capture the moment. It was one of those events that Kristen Saban wouldn’t have missed if she hadn’t had something really urgent to do.
While the reason for her absence this year is still not clear, the big FOMO moment is still stinging her the most. In an Instagram story on May 14, Kristen flaunted a picture of Nick Saban just as he was about to take a swing under that Alabama sun. The caption oozed out her feeling: “Kicking myself for not being there this year. .” she wrote.
The Regions Tradition, presented by the Coca-Cola Drummond Company, is a big-time five-day event where Saban has always been the center of attention for all these years. Kristen’s rues aren’t for nothing. But we can still get more of the iconic father-daughter moments in the future. Until then, let the coach fulfill his wife’s sweet ordeal.
