$3.1 Million Kentucky Derby Winning Jockey Becomes New York Yankees’ Talk of the Town

How famous can the Kentucky Derby make you? Well, you just have to look at the 2025 edition. Sovereignty showed his class at the Churchill Downs under the expert guidance of his jockey. In fact, trainer and Hall of Famer Bill Mott wouldn’t have any other jockey on Sovereignty’s saddle, because you don’t gamble with wins. And now, the 38-year-old jockey from Venezuela is reaping the rewards of being a Kentucky Derby winner. After all of that $3.1 million Derby-winning purse, Alvarado’s share came to about $310,000.

Did Junior Alvarado ever dream of pitching in an MLB game? Well, he is surely living out that fantasy in real life. Daily Racing Form’s New York correspondent, David Grening, just posted on Twitter that the 2025 Kentucky Derby-winning jockey is inside the New York Yankees Stadium. “@JuniorandKellyA throwing out first pitch at Yankee Stadium tonight.”

What a life Junior Alvarado is living out! But had he dreamt it would be like this in 2025? Being talked about like a celebrity, being the center of the event, a whole stadium in one of the world’s greatest cities getting to see you, know you, and praise you. This is what success looks like for sure.

This is a developing story…
