Yankees Could Cut Ties With $12.5M Baseman in Shocking Roster Shake-Up as Bold Insider Claim Emerges

The New York Yankees came into 2025 looking like a team ready to take over the rest, at least on paper. They had the bats, they had the buzz, and for a while, it felt like everything was just starting to click. But as any Yankee fans would know, it’s never that simple in the Bronx.

The offense, even without Juan Soto, is holding on its own and quite beautifully. But the real gap was the pitching—and that’s where the cracks started to show. Gerrit Cole and Luis Cole are both out, and the rotation is hanging on by a thread. Max Fried has done his part, but beyond that, it’s been a guessing game for the team.

And now the Yankees might be willing to go for a shocking fix—simply trading Paul Goldschmidt!

“If a handful of things go in New York’s favor, though, flipping Goldschmidt for a starting pitcher could be on the table,” Miller wrote for Bleacher Report. He is talking about the same Goldschmidt—the $12.5 million former MVP who is slashing .349/.397/.481. He has been the most reliable bat this year, which is exactly why he might become trade bait. Kerry Miller floated the idea that if a few things fall into place, then Goldy could be flipped for the need of pitching depth. It does sound wild at first, but if you dig deep, it’s not that far-fetched.

See, Giancarlo Stanton is on his way back, and Ben Rice has been crushing it as the designated hitter. So if Rice were to head to first base and Stanton take the DH spot, where is the place for Paul Goldschmidt? Since the rotation is hanging by straws, the Yankees might have to sacrifice a bat to patch the hole. Plus, if you are being real, Goldschmidt isn’t getting any younger. He is 37 years old, and while he is hot right now, the Yankees could try to move when his value is high. Plus, with Seattle and San Francisco in the market for a first baseman, the timing lines up.

Of course, all this depends on a few ifs, like Rice has to keep hitting, Stanton has to be healthy, and Goldschmidt has to keep his bat hot. But if everything lines up, don’t be shocked to see Brian Cashman pull the trigger.

Yankees explode in a wild comeback vs the Padres

Just when it looked like the New York Yankees might be headed to file their fourth straight loss, the offense that is their saving grace, once again saved the day. Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium started tense. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, and things weren’t looking great. But then the floodgates opened in a way that no one had seen for years.

The New York Yankees dropped 10 runs in one inning—yep, ten! They blew the game wide open against the Padres’ bullpen. It all kicked off with a leadoff double from Jasson Dominguez, followed by singles from Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells. After a bunt attempt into the first out, the Yanks loaded the bases with two walks. This is when Rice stepped up and smacked a two-run double, and then Cody Bellinger followed with a two-RBI single, and Aaron Judge got the walk treatment.

Volpe did not hit one but two before Austin Wells launched a grand slam into the right field seats. His first career grand slam—and what a grand way to do it! By the time the entire dust settled, 13 Yankees had come to the plate in that monster seventh inning. It’s the team’s biggest single-inning outburst since 2015 and their biggest at Yankee Stadium going back to 2011.

Clearly, the offense is rocking! But if they want to be October-bound, even pitching needs to be at par, doesn’t it? What did you think about their game last night?
