“I Have Zero Degrees” – Joe Rogan Ends Controversy on Heated Debate With Guest Douglas Murray in Final Verdict

5 min read

British journalist Douglas Murray‘s debate with Joe Rogan and comedian Dave Smith about expertise, responsible platforming, and misinformation was a pretty significant one. With the rise of the internet and the end of the age of gatekeeping news and information through publications and academic journals, a new frontier of information and misinformation has emerged, with even non-experts or hobbyists having significant influence in shaping people’s opinions.

Murray was highly critical of this development and felt that Rogan was guilty of platforming people who present counter-historical narratives, specifically about Winston Churchill and the Israel-Gaza conflict. “You’ve got a big platform, and you’ve been throwing out counter-historical stuff of a very dangerous kind,” Murray would bluntly tell the UFC commentator.

But Rogan and Smith were unconvinced. The duo argued that while they may not be experts in topics like politics, they felt everyone, including them and the guests they host, should have the freedom and right to publicize their views. And it seems like even a month later, Rogan is still mad at Murray for accusing him of essentially being a vector for spreading misinformation.

“To dismiss the [point] instead of having a debate on the issue, it’s like– and this idea of an expert. Like Douglas Murray, I love him dearly, I think he’s a brilliant man, he’s got a degree in history, or excuse me, he’s got a degree in English, bachelor’s degree, okay. He’s not an expert, either, unless we’re talking about Shakespeare. Shut the f–k up because, like, you’re not an expert either, you know what I mean?” Rogan said on episode #2316 of his JRE podcast with outdoorsman Cam Hanes.

“I don’t have a degree in anything. I have zero degrees in anything, but there are certain things that I’m an expert in. You want to talk about martial arts, I’m a martial arts expert. For me to have a conversation with someone where they disagree with me about martial [arts], they have to be so much better. It has to be like Gordon Ryan, right?”

“With these political issues, they’re so such a third rail. It’s such a f—ing dangerous subject that people have like a group that they belong to, and then that group will support them if they go out and say these ideas. And then the other people have another group, and then this person’s a representative of one group and they want to duke it out with the rep [of the other group],” he added.

Hot-button topics like politics, history, and recently, even medical science are lightning rods and polarize people. This is why they demand perhaps a higher level of understanding if one is to discuss them responsibly and prevent audiences from being misinformed, Murray would argue.

But Rogan’s answer to him here was to call Murray a non-expert on topics the British journalist discusses, like foreign policy, immigration, and culture, since he only has a bachelor’s degree in English from Oxford. And Murray isn’t the only one Rogan flamed on his podcast recently. Ahead of UFC 315 this weekend, Rogan spoke about the reason he commentating the event where he flamed the entire country of Canada.

Joe Rogan would rather visit Russia than go to Canada

Joe Rogan hates Canada. Or rather, he hates the Canadian government. The UFC commentator has expressed his fondness for the Canadian people, and even rubbished President Donald Trump’s statements about making Canada the 51st state. The Texas resident has been a stringent critic of what he feels were Canada’s government’s excesses during the Covid-19 pandemic and has previously claimed that the country is in the midst of a “communist takeover.”

The UFC commentator had a particular disdain for Canada’s previous Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, but it seems even a change in Prime Ministers has not softened Rogan’s contempt for Canada. That is why Rogan will, unfortunately, not be calling the UFC 315 card headlined by a cracking welterweight title bout between champion Belal Muhammad and Aussie dynamo Jack Della Maddalena.

“Wow, I won’t be there. I don’t go to Canada anymore. I’d rather go to Russia,” Rogan said on his podcast a couple of months ago after finding out UFC 315 will be held in Montreal in the French-speaking Canadian province of Quebec. What do you think about Joe Rogan flaming Douglas Murray yet again on his podcast?
