Cade Klubnik is coming into his senior season with the Clemson Tigers, and in all honesty, the hype surrounding him is larger than ever. Following a tumultuous sophomore season that left folks wondering if he’d ever fulfill his five-star potential, Klubnik completely turned the page last season, throwing for 3,639 yards, 36 touchdowns, and only six interceptions, guiding Clemson to another ACC championship and a College Football Playoff berth. He’s not afraid to set the standard high, either.
With all the new juice on defense, with Tom Allen as defensive coordinator. Allen, who joined from Penn State, is already making a significant impact, bringing a fresh energy that has invigorated the entire team after spring practice. Klubnik’s spoken about his teammates going off that energy, and with Allen’s experience, the defense should be a whole lot tougher this season. And Klubnik’s choosing to remain and not enter the transfer portal indicates he’s going all-in on making his final year matter.
“Number one starting at quarterback, you know, with Cade coming back and seeing the progress that he made last year and and you know, even in the last game, even though the game didn’t go the way we wanted,” states Jeff Scott in the ClemsonTigerNet show. Jeff Scott is a Clemson alumnus who was a wide receiver at Clemson from 2000 through 2002 and later emerged as a go-to coach for the Tigers. He was co-offensive coordinator during Clemson’s rise to national relevance, helping win two national championships and establishing Clemson as one of college football’s top programs.
He also says, “He [Klubnik] did a lot of really good things versus a very strong defense. I think that gives him a lot of confidence, and then the receiver room, I’m really pleased with what I’ve seen there.” Jeff gives Cade his flowers. Although last season didn’t quite go as they’d have liked, Cade showed promise and a lot of development, particularly in those harder games against two of the country’s top defenses. Scott’s entire stance is that Klubnik’s experience from last season is going to be a massive advantage for him and the team this year.
Scott had a few wonderful things to say regarding Tom Allen. “I’m really excited about Coach Tom Allen coming in as a defensive coordinator,” Scott states. Filling in for Clemson’s new defensive coordinator position, Allen’s determination is evident; he would continue coaching with bloodied teeth to support his players. Scott loves that kind of grit and thinks Clemson’s defense could use it right now.
The battle for ACC supremacy
Cade Klubnik and the Tigers are riding high at the moment, with Clemson alum’s thumbs up. But Mario Cristobal is not afraid of the ACC battle; he truly believes Miami can beat Clemson this season, and one reason is his overhauled roster. The splashy addition, naturally, is Carson Beck, the former Georgia quarterback who comes with a 24-3 record and SEC background to Coral Gables. Cristobal’s been hyping Beck as the perfect fit for Miami’s offense, praising his football IQ and presence, even though Beck is still recovering from elbow surgery.
Cristobal’s not counting on Beck alone, however. He’s loaded up the Canes with firepower in the form of CharMar Brown, Tony Johnson, and Keelon Marion, as well as a talented backfield and some critical defensive transfers. The theory is straightforward: with all this talent, Miami shouldn’t merely keep pace with Clemson-they should be able to beat them.
Meanwhile, Dabo Swinney has been all about developing that stout Clemson culture, with a focus on player development. Swinney’s not simply banking on natural ability; he’s stressing game-day routines and toughness of mind, which he insists you can’t develop on game day. And on top of that, he’s got some new faces and old faces rising, such as Ian Schieffelin transitioning from basketball to football, providing different depth.
