American tennis star Taylor Townsend welcomed her son, Adyn Aubrey, on March 14, 2021. Ever since giving birth to her child, she has been busy overcoming multiple challenges that have been coming her way. Throughout these past four years, she has learned quite a few lessons, but the biggest lesson amongst them all is learning to accept that she can’t always be in charge of everything. During the 2023 US Open press conference, she jokingly said, “I think like being a parent makes you want to pull your hair out (laughter). I think it’s more so, like, learning and understanding when to push.” She has understood the importance of letting things go, which are basically out of her control. Overall, motherhood has been a roller coaster ride for Townsend. Sometimes it’s fun but at other times…
Talking about being in charge, well, her little kid always makes sure he’s in charge of everything whenever he’s at home. And Townsend loves sharing those adorable moments with her fans on social media. Recently, the tennis star shared glimpses of her annoyed face on her IG stories. What was the reason for her annoyance, though? Little AJ’s behavior!
Taylor Townsend recently shared two video clips on her IG stories. In the first video clip, grumpy-faced Townsend captured the moment when she was left annoyed with the behavior of the little kid. Adyn Aubrey was heard crying in the background, and she captioned that post with, “Honestly working my last good nerve today .” Then in another story, she shared a similar facial expression with the caption, “AJ is really blowing my top today bruh .”
Townsend never shies away from sharing his experiences as an athlete and mother, and this is just another example of it. Talking about fun moments with her son, a few months ago, she shared a video clip on her IG stories, where she highlighted a few moments of her making toy dinosaurs with her son. “This is my relax wind-down time with my baby. We building dinosaurs, it’s like always so many things going on, so, it helps me to relax and chill, be able to decompress because its already been a long three weeks, and we still got a lot more to go, so, it’s nice to do this because I don’t get this very much so i try to make the most of it when I have it.”
Just a few weeks ago, she was even spotted seeking reactions from her little son about her new hairdo. The way she has managed to find ways to balance motherhood with her on-court duties is truly inspiring for all working mothers. Interestingly, before embracing motherhood, Taylor Townsend never cracked the Top 60 in the doubles ranking. However, since her comeback in 2022, Townsend has not only become a two-time Grand Slam champion but she is also inside the Top 3 in the doubles ranking. How does she manage to make a balance and still maintain her excellence on the court?
Taylor Townsend reveals the main motivating factor behind her resurgence
After winning the 2025 AO doubles event, Taylor Townsend shared her thoughts on the challenging path to her recent success. She said, “Being a working mom, it’s not easy, but I try and make it worthwhile and always tell him I’m leaving for a reason.” Time and again, she spoke about how “frustrating” it is for her when she gets home and only has one or two hours to spend with her son. “It’s been so hard. On one side, I know this is what I have to do in order for me to continue to progress and be better and get better and perform better so that I can take him on the road with me more. But on the other side, I’m just like, I just want to be here with him. Even If I can spend two more hours, three more hours, like, I just wish I had more time.“
Even with the demands of the grueling tennis schedule, she always makes sure she never lets distance get between them. For example, when AJ was three years old, she couldn’t leave her son alone despite winning the title in Macon. Highlighting her motherhood duties, she took to her IG stories to share a video of herself with her kid and captioned it with, “Sick baby means mom stays home.”
Further talking about her struggles, on April 9 this year, she shared a brief video clip from The Ashley Nicole Show on her IG stories. In that clip, she discussed the struggles, saying, “I feel this in my soul. I cry many nights when I’m away from AJ, but I have to sacrifice now. I just pray it’s worthwhile.”
What keeps this 29-year-old momma going so strong on the tennis courts, though? According to Townsend, being a mother to AJ motivates her on different levels. Motherhood has brought a large amount of accountability to her. “Me looking at my son’s eyes and telling him, Hey, I’m leaving, but I’m going to come back with a trophy…I mean that with everything in me because my word is everything to me, and that’s what I teach him.” Share your thoughts on this incredible journey of this super-mom in the tennis world.
