Personal life and family of Kurt Kitayama

Kurt Shun Kitayama was born on January 14, 1993, in Chico, California. He is the youngest in the family of four with father, Clifford Kitayama, Rumiko Kitayama, mother, and elder brother, Daniel. His father is a respected entomologist who founded Scientific Methods in 1980. His brother, who also pursued golf as a profession, soon transitioned to the professional caddie role. Well, away from the golfer’s personal life, his superstition is what has caught the attention of the fans. The golfer is known for eating a candy the night before every round.

Other than his family, the golfer has not revealed anything about his love life, and is assumed to be single currently. But with his laid-back demeanor off the course, he has shared his interest in video games and watching movies. Even the golfer with his growing career has made efforts to give back to the community with his Kurt Kitayama Foundation. But interestingly, the beginning of his career was way before when he was a young golf enthusiast in school.

Junior and amateur life of Kitayama

The golfer that we witness excelling at the course was a point guard in his school years. Being 5 feet, 7 inches tall, he co-captained the basketball team and led it to glorious victories. Kitayama went to Chico High School, where, apart from his success on the court, he saw a way to follow his passion for golf. The Chico native has been playing since the age of  5, and continued to play alongside his elder brother at the Butte Creek Country Club.

Kitayama kept golf at the forefront and became a part of the UNLV Rebels men’s golf team while pursuing his degree in Finance. With four years as a collegiate golfer from 2011 to 2015, Kitayama earned many honors, including Academic All-Mountain West, for three consecutive years. Along with that, he secured two victories at the Jackrabbit Invitational between 2014 and 2015.

Soon after his victories and achieving a notable 47th position in the World Amateur Golf ranking, he transitioned to his professional career.

Professional career of Kurt Kitayama

After graduating, the golfer turned professional in 2015, but his journey has been a smooth sail in the beginning. Initially, for two years, till 2017 on the Web.com Tour, he faced challenges with his appearance. However, in 2018, things started to settle down with his first professional win. He claimed victory at the PGM Darulaman Championship on the Asian Development Tour. The victory then continued as he won the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open and the Oman Open. With two victories in just 11 starts, he became the fastest player to achieve it on the European Tour.

With notable performance on the European Tour, the golfer then secured his PGA Tour card in 2021 after finishing 23rd on the Korn Ferry Tour. In the rookie year, the 32-year-old had some notable finishes; he secured a third-place finish at the Honda Classic and a tied second place at the Mexico Open. However, it didn’t take long for the professional to win his first PGA Tour title, as in 2023, he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Apart from just his career notable achievement, he became the first player since 1990 to win on his debut appearance.
