Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President, Stephen Jones, made bold statements about the team’s future. He confirmed the Cowboys will take a “long hard look” at their free agency strategy, signaling potential changes to improve the roster.
At the same time, controversy arose over the Cowboys’ head coaching search, particularly concerning Deion Sanders. When the team parted ways with Mike McCarthy, Sanders quickly emerged as a candidate. However, during an introductory press conference for new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, conflicting statements were made by Jerry and Stephen Jones.
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones: “We’re going to take a long hard look at how we’ve looked at free agency. And if we need to change some things there, we will.”

Stephen expressed admiration for Sanders, calling him a “serious candidate” and emphasizing their respect for the former Cowboy. Contrastingly, Jerry denied Sanders was ever a serious option, citing Sanders’ current job at Colorado.
Despite the back-and-forth, Sanders will remain in Colorado, where he turned the program around in just two years. Meanwhile, Jerry Jones is hopeful Schottenheimer can lead the Cowboys to success after years of disappointment.
