Jon Jones Drops Cryptic Hint as Tom Aspinall Fight Hangs in the Balance

4 min read

While Tom Aspinall waits on the sidelines in the hopes of getting his big title unification fight, fans are wondering if Jon Jones will oblige at all. The undisputed heavyweight champion has had arguably the greatest MMA career, eclipsing all of his contemporaries since making his pro debut in 2008. As he turns 38 this year, is it the end of the road for him? Well, it doesn’t seem like it.

Jon Jones recently shared an Instagram post, engaged in some home decoration. Well, it wasn’t exactly that; it was just one of his rooms where all the posters of his headlining fights were. The wall included all of his career-defining PPV events, but strangely enough, the UFC 309 poster, when he fought against Stipe Miocic, wasn’t on the wall, and according to Jones, he might be putting something else in that place as he reminisced on the career he’s had.

“Now, as you can see… still haven’t framed or hung the Stipe fight yet. Been moving a million miles an hour lately. But there’s one last perfect spot left on my wall of victory,” wrote Jon Jones. “And looking at this wall—it really hits me. This isn’t just artwork. It’s legacy. Every poster tells a story. Different chapters. Different homes. Different battles. Wins that meant the world at the time. Fights that made history.”

Jon Jones proudly recalled how he defeated “legends after legends. Era after era,” and how he evolved with each big-time clash. However, Tom Aspinall might be happy to hear that, for ‘Bones’, it’s not yet over because he still has one more spot to fill on his wall, because we haven’t even seen his ‘best’ moment yet. “The wall’s almost filled… but trust me, the story’s still being written. The best is yet to come,” Jones added on Instagram.

Well, Jon Jones already mentioned that he’s considering sticking around for a while after beating Stipe Miocic. But when is he returning? We don’t know, but Tom Aspinall thinks that his wait for the big match with ‘Bones’ has actually paid off. Here’s what he had to say.

Tom Aspinall is glad that he’s waited so long to fight Jon Jones

Most people think that Tom Aspinall is just wasting his prime years waiting for the Jon Jones fight to happen. Daniel Cormier and Georges St-Pierre, these legends, claim that the interim heavyweight champion is not taking the right approach. But it seems like it was actually a good decision to wait because Aspinall recently revealed that he had been dealing with some health issues, more than he ever has, in 2025.

“As professional athletes or fighters, we don’t like to talk about stuff that’s holding us back. Injuries, illnesses, all that kind of stuff. But this year, I’ve actually been ill more times than I ever have in my life, and we are in April. I got a virus before Christmas, and basically, I’ve had it on and off since,” Tom Aspinall stated in a video on social media. He claimed to have had multiple issues with his skin, which forced him to take a deeper look into his illnesses.

“Usually, I’ll get ill once a year, if that, with a head cold or whatever. But I’ve been really ill, bed-bound a couple of times. I’ve had ringworm quite a few times and other minor skin infections,” Tom Aspinall added. Well, it seems like Jon Jones isn’t going to retire anytime soon, but will he fight Aspinall if the demands for his “f— you money” payout aren’t met?
