Christakis holds a Greek American heritage, as was once highlighted in an article by The US Sun. According to her official LinkedIn profile, Christakis first began her journalism career as a Chicago Cubs & NCAA Football Correspondent with Sports Divas, Inc. She began working while she was still in college. Her tasks included providing recaps, highlights, previews and feature stories on the Chicago Cubs (or National news in the MLB), along with covering team conventions in Chicago for the website. During the later part of her tenure there, Christakis also worked as a Sports Contributor for ESPN Campus Connection. Her role had her providing game day packages from student perspective, and to give post and pre-game interviews/stand ups.
Christakis’s first big break after graduation came when she joined WEEK TV, an NBC-affiliated news station. She served in the role of News Reporter Fill-In Anchor for 11 months. Soon, she was promoted to the role of Sports Director – Anchor/Reporter. She was the first female in DMA to be promoted to that position. After more than 3 years in her top position, Christakis sought a change, which led her to join Spectrum News Charlotte. She was with the organization for around a year-and-a-half before the opportunity at CBS News came a-knocking back in February 2022.

Throughout her journalistic career, Christakis has covered several noteworthy events/stories. These include the NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Finals, March Madness, MLB Draft, and even high school games.
