Joel Klatt Exposes Why NFL Teams Passed on Shedeur Sanders After Unexpected Draft Fall

2 min read

Shedeur Sanders slid to 144th overall to the Cleveland Browns — and Joel Klatt just told the world why. No sugarcoating, no fluff. Spoiler alert: It ain’t got nothing to do with the NFL Owners did Shedeur Sanders’ dirty narration or his personality. On The Herd with Colin Cowherd (April 29), Klatt flat-out said what NFL execs wouldn’t:

“The biggest issue, honestly, wasn’t even just that he dropped into the second round—it started earlier. I’d even move the timeline forward. You mentioned that executive who said it was about the first six picks of the second round, but for me, it was after New York traded back into the first and still didn’t select him. That was the moment. Because at that point, Cleveland had been on the clock twice in the first round and passed on him. New Orleans had a shot and didn’t take him. Pittsburgh was on the clock—they passed. Then the Giants traded back in, had another opportunity, and still didn’t take him. That told me everything. That told me the league viewed Shedeur Sanders as a backup. And once you’re seen as a backup, everything changes. Now it becomes more about your personality than your play. That’s why some of those other guys were taken before him. And it’s not even that teams disliked Shedeur’s personality—it’s more nuanced than that.”
