Which NFL Rookies Were Prank Called at Green Bay Draft 2025? 5 Players Share Shedeur Sanders’ Fate

6 min read

The 2025 NFL Draft was a tough one, proving to be an emotional rollercoaster for most rookies. You’re probably familiar with the Shedeur Sanders saga. First, teams didn’t pick him until the fifth round. And before that selection, a teenager pranked him by pretending to be the Saints‘ GM. That was tough. But Sanders wasn’t the only rookie to face such prank calls.

Tyler Warren, a tight end from Penn State, also experienced the disappointment of a prank call before his selection. On Sunday, Fox Sports reporter Jordan Schultz confirmed that Warren, whom the Colts selected in the first round, also received a similar call, citing sources.

Schultz shared the update on his official Instagram, posting a picture of Warren, the John Mackey Award-winning player, and providing details in the caption. “Sources: Penn State TE Tyler Warren was also prank-called during the draft, receiving a call when the Jets were on the clock at No. 7. I’m told Warren’s camp believes it was the same number and/or area code involved in the Shedeur Sanders prank on Friday night,” he stated.

Surprisingly, the same number misled Sanders on Day 2 also made the prank call. The NFL Insider also expressed his annoyance over the player passing the number to others. “NFL teams have access to these numbers, and it’s clear someone passed it along, whether to family or friends. Just so cruel,” he added further.

However, besides Sanders and Warren, other players also received heartbreaking prank calls. Another name in this list is former UConn Huskies OT Chase Lundt. Before his selection by the Bills in the 6th round, the NFL OT also received ‘cruel’, false calls. MLF football official Twitter handle acknowledged Lundt’s prank call.

“BREAKING: #Bills draft pick Chase Lundt received FIVE different prank calls throughout the draft before finally getting drafted by Buffalo. 5 PRANK CALLS. It was absolutely brutal… before Lundt was drafted in the 6th round,” they mentioned in their caption.

This was indeed a frightful act. And, the pranksters even made another target, former Syracuse QB, Kyle McCord. Before Eagles drafted him in the sixth round on Saturday, McCord, 23, who also played for the Ohio State Buckeyes, received the prank calls. MLF football claimed regarding MCCORD’s fraudulent calls through a Twitter post. They even criticized this vicious feat.

“THIS IS AWFUL,” they wrote in the post caption. Later on, they shared the details of MCCORD’s prank calls. “KYLE MCCORD RECEIVED MULTIPLE PRANK CALLS WHILE HE WAS WAITING TO GET THE CALL FROM AN ACTUAL #NFL TEAM,” they penned.

Apart from this, the source also revealed that Kyle McCord’s selection by the Super Bowl-winning team, the Eagles. “McCord was finally drafted in the 6th round by the #Eagles,” it reads further. After this, they strongly condemned the person who was misleading the player through a fraudulent call just before their biggest day in the NFL draft. “Brutal. Players should not be dealing with this on the biggest day of their lives,” they also mentioned in their post.

However, McCord himself claimed, he had received fraudulent calls from numbers in the Philadelphia field before the final day of the draft. Besides the above-mentioned players, there is another third, anonymous prospect who received a call during the draft. According to ProFootballTalk, the fraud caller claimed that the unnamed team would trade the player after selecting him.

Absolutely, this is really an unsympathetic action. These players probably went through a lot of disappointment before their selection by the actual NFL teams.  And, it was the same fate that Shedeur Sanders suffered before his selection by the Browns.

From Shedeur Sanders’s prank call to the prankster’s apology

Sanders entered Green Bay as the NFL’s most prominent prospect. However, the Colorado Buffaloes’ QB remained undrafted till the 5th round. During those intimidating hours, he became a victim of a ‘brutal prank.’ Allegedly, Shedeur, 23, received a call from a guy claiming as Mickey Loomis, Saints GM.

“This is Mickey Loomis here, the GM of the New Orleans Saints. How are you doing?” the fake caller questioned the NFL QB. And, Sanders’s reply is quite impactful. “Good, I’ve been waiting for you,” he replied. The viral video also featured a fake caller’s fake statement regarding his selection. “It’s been a long wait, man. We’re going to take you with our next pick, man, but you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer, man. Sorry about that,” it described.

Despite the brutal prank call, the Browns drafted Sanders in the fifth round as the 144th overall pick. After his selection, Sanders participated in a conference call with Cleveland-area reporters, where he claimed that the prank call didn’t upset him.

“It didn’t really have an impact on me,” Sanders said. “Because it was just like, I mean, OK, I don’t feed into negativity or that stuff. You’ve seen it on Deion Sanders Jr.’s YouTube video. My reaction to it… I don’t… it is what it is. Of course, it was childish. I think it was a childish act, but everybody does childish things here and there.” Interestingly, the NFL had already investigated a prank call made to the quarterback.

Amidst all this, Jax Ulbrich, son of Falcons’ DC Jeff Ulbrich, apologized for making the prank call to the former JSU player. Jax Ulbrich also released a statement on his X handle, apologizing for the “embarrassing” call to Sanders during the 2025 NFL Draft.

“On Friday night, I made a tremendous mistake. Shedeur, what I did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful. I’m so sorry I took away from your moment; it was selfish and childish. I could never imagine getting ready to celebrate one of the greatest moments of your life, and I made a terrible mistake and messed with that moment. Thank you for accepting my call earlier today. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. @Shedeursanders,” he wrote.

Despite the cruel prank, these rookies are moving forward with a positive spirit, ready to embrace their NFL dreams with pride.
