By now, it’s safe to say that NBC is gearing up for a huge year in 2026. We are talking about the broadcasting giant’s coverage of the Winter Olympics from Milan-Cortina, Italy. It will run from February 6 to 22. And the NBA All-Star Weekend in February 2026. The interesting part? Yeah, they’re all set to broadcast the Super Bowl LX as well. And it’s not the first time they’ll cover the big game—they’ve done it before in 2016 and 2022.
But this one’s shaping up to be a standout. Imagine the excitement: Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara (the home field of the San Francisco 49ers, hosting the event after Super Bowl L), right in the heart of Silicon Valley, with all eyes glued to NBC and streaming through Peacock.
However, for the time being, the cable giant is under the radar. NBC has faced a huge loss over the past twelve months. Brian Roberts, the chairman and CEO of Comcast (parent company of NBCUniversal), reported first-quarter results for its entertainment unit and other operations. According to Roberts, Peacock, the streaming service under NBCUniversal had a loss of $215 million in the first quarter.
Ouch, right? But here’s the silver lining. The streaming service has narrowed its loss from $639 million it had in the same quarter of the previous year. Not too shabby. It’s like losing a bad game, but you still walk off the field feeling better than last time. To top that off, the overall revenue also rose 16 percent to $1.2 billion. But how?
Well, new subscribers. They’ve got new faces, especially thanks to their new deal with Charter Communications, who merged with Comcast. Long story short: even though they’re not profitable, they’re on the right track. Peacock ended March 2025 with 41 million paying subscribers. It’s a jump from 36 million subscribers at the end of 2024, and in the third quarter of 2024.
Sure, things are looking up in that department right now, but no one’s popping champagne just yet. The president of Comcast, Mike Cavanagh, didn’t predict whether Peacock will become profitable in the rest of 2025 of not, but he added, “I do expect Peacock to be on a continuing trend of driving towards improved monetization, bigger scale and therefore declining losses over time.”
But wait, there’s more! Overall, Comcast raked in $29.8 billion in revenue for Q1 2025. It’s a bit of a drop from $30.05 billion the previous year, but nothing crazy. Their net income came in at $3.37 billion, which is a 12.5% decline compared to last year’s $3.85 billion. On the bright side, their adjusted earnings per share (EPS) went up by 4.5%, so it’s not all doom and gloom.
If we round up all, it’s likely Peacock will get back on the track by the time of the NFL’s biggest game in 2026. After all, NBC’s two of the best broadcasters, Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth, are set to announce the Super Bowl in 2026.
Mike Tirick and Cris Collinsworth will likely man the booth for Super Bowl
The Super Bowl LIX was historic in ever freaking way–except for the Chiefs failed attempt to finish the historic three-peat. Anyway, the biggest showdown of the 2024 season marked the first time the game was broadcasted in both English and Spanish on Fox and Fox Deportes, with streaming available via Tubi and NFL+. The event generated a record-breaking 127.7 million views across platforms, making it the most watched Super Bowl in the history.
And of course, who can forget Kendrick Lamar’s half-time show that generated roughly 133.5 million views, surpassing Michael Jackson’s 1993 performance as the most-watched halftime show in U.S. history. To top that off, we saw the return of Tom Brady in the Super Bowl—not as a quarterback leading the Patriots (or Bucs), but as a Fox analyst. And now?
Well, the early speculations are suggesting that NBC’s two of the best broadcasters, Cris Collinsworth and Mike Tirico, are set to cover the Super Bowl LX on February 8, 2026. For Tirico, let’s just say, the man’s going to have a busy schedule in February next year. The reason? Well, besides the Super Bowl, Tirico will also serve as the host of NBC’s prime time Olympics coverage during the Milano Cortina Winter Games and he has also been named the lead NBA play-by-play announcer for NBC and Peacock starting this fall.
As for Collinsworth, NBC is projected to keep him to cover at least two Super Bowls. Collinsworth is expected to sign a four-year contract extension with NBC. As per The Athletic, the extension will keep him through the 2029-30 season. Considering NBC is set to cover Super Bowl LX in 2026, and Super Bowl LXIV in 2030, Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth are expected to man the booth in both the seasons.
