Aimee Boorman has seen it all. She had been seeing Simone Biles long ago when the latter didn’t earn much proficiency in YDP or Yurchenko Double Pike. ‘Much proficiency,’ however, would be a bigger word. The veteran American gymnastics coach saw Simone in those days when she was moving ahead slowly but with a determination to make it to the top position. Actually, Aimee started to coach Simone when she was 8 years old. So, the coach has the responsibility to shape the talent entirely. However, in this process, she witnessed several things that might be felt unimaginable to be seen from a gymnast like Simone. However, one such incident has recently been made public.
In her recently published book, The Balance: My Years Coaching Simone Biles, Aimee penned down the incident and which was from her second meet. According to Boorman, Biles received a zero mark in the vault event in that meet. How? The coach wrote, “She [Simone] was joking around a little bit before she saluted, and on her first run she sprinted down the runway but tried to stop herself at the last second, threw her hands in front of her body, belly slid on the vault, but didn’t actually go over the vault table. Zero.”
