You are all no strangers to the New York Yankees’ third base dilemma. Now, it’s worth noting the new developments. Let’s just say this dilemma is about to cause them real trouble. Interestingly, a name that has recently been linked to their third base saga might come with a troubled history. Now, if you believe DJ LeMahieu can be the key to fixing their roster once he’s back—well, no, that’s not happening anytime soon. And given his ongoing stretches on the injured list, the Yankees can’t really rely on what the veteran offers. With all doors seemingly shutting down, they could use some suggestions—and it looks like there’s already one in the air.
Sure, they did explore their internal options as well. Except for LeMahieu, if they decide to go with Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza. They cannot fill the void with slash lines of .286/.364/.367 and .217/.250/.435, respectively. The Yankees have a dangerously underwhelming performance at the hot corner. Just two homers and eight RBIs are not good enough for the team with championship dreams. So, there is one wild trade move that could potentially turn things around for the Yankees.

This time, the Yankees should choose to go all in aggressively at the trade deadline. For that, there’s a bold trade suggestion from Zach Pressnell of Newsweek that they could consider. According to him, Brian Cashman should try to put together the perfect trade package to acquire the $200 million star Carlos Correa from the Minnesota Twins. “Adding Correa, who’s off to a slow start himself, would give the Yankees an additional veteran to play every day,” Pressnell penned down.
He emphasized that Correa would definitely fit in at third base. In addition to that, Correa’s versatility was well-demonstrated when he had to move all around the infield to fill in for any injured player or if there was a day off for Jazz Chisholm Jr. or Anthony Volpe.
Remember, we mentioned the ‘troubled history’ that comes with this player? Ironically, Correa is the same guy who was one of the Houston Astros’ stars who contributed to the painful defeats of the Yankees back in the American League Championship Series in 2017 and 2019. Moreover, he was a member of the 2017 Houston Astros, whose World Series title was later held in low regard because of a sign-stealing scandal that shook the baseball world when it came to light during the 2019 season.
Now, do you think this trade could really materialize? If the Yankees can’t find any other way around, then yes, it could certainly happen.
Could Carlos Correa fit in with the Yankees?
Now that the Yankees have run out of internal options, they may consider the names that fans never expected to hear in pinstripes. After all, it’s high time for the Yankees to make a move. They can’t simply sit with crossed fingers, hoping that their internal options will somehow magically turn a perfect fit for third base.
The whispers around Correa being a possible fix for the Yankees’ infield woes are growing louder. But is he even the right fit for the Bronx? Let’s not forget he’s no longer at the top of his career anymore. It was his 2015 AL Rookie of the Year campaign that stands out, along with his fifth-place AL MVP finish back in 2021. However, his OPS+ sits at 21 points above league average over his four seasons with the Twins. It’s above the league average.
But this is Correa, the guy who is one of the most debated figures in recent times. Yes, it’s been years since the sign-stealing scandal, but it still stings. Now the 2017 Astros team is scattered around the league, but that weight from 2017 still feels heavy. Even if we keep that aside, the fact is, Correa has never played third base throughout his MLB career. Switching roles, especially with no prior experience, is a real concern.
The Yankees need more than just talent right now. They need someone who brings stability to the Bronx.
