The Boston Celtics opened their playoff campaign with a dominant 103–86 win over the Orlando Magic, but the spotlight quickly shifted to Jayson Tatum after a scary fall in the fourth quarter. While soaring toward the rim, Tatum was met mid-air by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Wendell Carter Jr., crashing to the hardwood and landing awkwardly on his wrist. Caldwell-Pope was hit with a flagrant foul after review.
As Tatum walked off the court, cameras caught his mother, Brandy Cole, in full “mama bear” mode in the tunnel. “You want me to go to the Orlando locker room?” she asked—half-joking, but clearly fired up.
Fortunately for Celtics fans, and likely for the Magic locker room, Tatum’s postgame X-rays came back negative. The All-Star forward assured reporters, “It’s alright,” adding that the pain subsided quickly.
Despite the scare, Tatum still chipped in 17 points and played through the injury, while Derrick White led the charge with 30 points, including seven three-pointers. Payton Pritchard added a playoff career-high 19 off the bench. Game 2 tips off Wednesday night, and all eyes will be on Tatum’s wrist—and whether Brandy Cole is courtside and ready for game two.
