Aaron Rodgers’ Ex-Teammate’s Strong Verdict on Disrespect From Jets as Aaron Glenn Gets Strong Warning

5 min read

Was it all just a clown show? Aaron Rodgers arrived in New York in 2023 with a big smile and high hopes. But things didn’t exactly go as planned. His season ended almost as soon as it started with a devastating Achilles tear. Still, the coaches and his teammates gave him their trust for one more try.

This year, Rodgers handled pressure decently—59 completions on 130 attempts for 811 yards, eight touchdowns, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 86.4. His overall showing from last season isn’t anything people will remember fondly. Now, it’s got the New York Jets seriously rethinking their future at quarterback, as they parted ways with A-Rod. But was this abrupt end with the franchise a disrespectful one?

Emmanuel Acho, LeSean McCoy, and James Jones all sat on Friday to discuss Aaron Rodgers and the Jets’ messy breakup. During the Facility show, Rodgers’s ex-teammate and Green Bay Packers’ WR, Jones, admitted, “Oh, man. Yes, he got disrespected.” Explaining his reason, the former NFLer further quipped, “This is a Hall of Fame player, right? This is disrespect at its finest, right? So, Aaron Rodgers, I don’t care about him spending his money. My dawg got a lot of money. He could buy a Southwest ticket, (or) private jet, whatever… But to get there for the meeting and you to disrespect this man like that is crazy to me.” Well, we can’t disagree.

Jones just can’t stand anyone disrespecting his man. All this came after Aaron Rodgers, in the Pat McAfee Show, said, “I was kind of shocked. Now I’m not shocked because I didn’t think that was a possibility. Listen, of course, if they want to move on, that’s totally fine, but shocked because I just flew across the country. You could have told me this on the phone if we weren’t even going to have a conversation.” The Jets‘ way of handling the situation clearly frustrated the four-time MVP. All he wanted was some respect, but he didn’t get that.

Hence, Jones, who was with Rodgers for about eight seasons in Green Bay, too, couldn’t hold back. He didn’t care about how Rodgers spent his money to fly out for the meeting, whether it was a Southwest ticket or a private jet – what mattered was that he showed up. And they still treated him in the wrong manner. Saying this, the ex-NFLer also shared his own experience.

He quipped that when he went to Green Bay, the GM warned him to avoid certain players, but Jones refused. He said, “Hey, that’s not how I’m built dog. My mama ain’t raised me like that. That’s your relationship with him I ain’t even met the dude yet.” So, for the Jets to meet with Rodgers without knowing him and already act like he wasn’t the right guy? Jones called it straight-up disrespect. He said that if that’s how they felt, they should’ve just told Rodgers over the phone instead of wasting his time. Because in his eyes, Aaron Rodgers deserved far better, as Jones warned new coach Aaron Glenn and his team.

Can disrespect to Aaron Rodgers ruin the Jets?

Aaron Rodgers came to New York full of excitement, but when he left, the pain hit just as hard. Reflecting on his controversial exit, Rodgers said, “To make a commitment to a team is a big thing, whether you’re a first-year player or a 20-year vet. And I had a lot of great conversations with a lot of teams. Not one of those was the Jets because that wasn’t a great conversation. … I had some good conversations, but I’ve been up-front with all of them.” All Rodgers wanted was an honest, straightforward conversation—but according to him, it never came. Instead, he and Aaron Glenn’s team parted ways on bad terms.

Hence, many of his fans, including friend James Jones, didn’t hold back. On the same episode of The Facility, Jones praised Rodgers, saying, “This is a Hall of Fame player. And I don’t know Aaron Glenn personally, so I’m not going to judge Aaron Glenn. But what I will say is if you have this mindset going into be a head coach, and it’s your way….or it’s my team, don’t say nothing this and that, you’re not gonna last long with them boys in that locker room, man.” Also, he warned Aaron Glenn at the same time.

Hence, Jones made it clear that in the NFL, you lose players fast when you disrespect them, especially when you’re not winning big. And when it comes to Rodgers, a legend who’s given everything to the game, the Jets’ treatment is flat-out disrespectful.
